72 Wiring Problem
I am installing all new wiring harnesses in a 72 with AC and there is a harness coming out of a round plug to the left of the firewall harnesses that was not connected to anything. I don't have one like this in the new harnesses and wonder if I am going to need it. I am also installing a new engine, so don't have it installed yet to match all the wiring up until tomorrow. If some one has a truck that I can look at, I would appreciate the chance to do so. I am in Frisco.

Re: 72 Wiring Problem
The smaller round hole to the right and above the fuse block connector (as you are standing looking into the engine compartment) is for a light brown wire that goes to the gas gauge sender. The above diagram photo doesn't seem to show it. Also on the tunnel part of the firewall shown (again as you are facing it from the front of the truck) the uppermost hole on the slant is for the oil line, and the one underneath it for windshield washer tubing. The hole on the flat of the the tunnel near where the throttle cable exits is for the rear light harness.

Re: 72 Wiring Problem
I have a similar harness on my '72 with AC. I think its there to run the AC idle circuit on the factory carb as well as the factory electric choke.
I'm not 100% sure as I yanked these items and did not pay attention to their function. Todd |

Re: 72 Wiring Problem
I have never seen a factory electric choke. I believe they were all divorced chokes with no wiring to them. 525409hp - can you take a photo of the plug?

The smaller round hole to the right and above the fuse block connector (as you are standing looking into the engine compartment) is for a light brown wire that goes to the gas gauge sender. On all 3 of my '72 trucks and the '71 parts truck the fuel gauge sender wire comes out of the top of the fuse panel under the dash, runs along the left sill plate ( along with the dome light and cargo light wires,) and then to the fuel tank sender. 2 are AC & automatic trucks, the other 2 are non-AC with manual trans, 3 C20's, 1 K20. I just went out and looked,, all 4 trucks have a plug in that hole . Don't know what wire you are referring to..... |
