It almost looks like a truck again...
Well, maybe not. I was excited to see it look like something again even if it is only temporary. Lost Wages helped me get all the panels lined up to get the doors adjusted so I could then start cutting out old cab corners.
Now if I could just photoshop this setup on the frame...

powdercoating done over the weekend. I was able to set the 72BB motor stands on the frame. Looks like I will need to drill two more holes for them.

Yes you need to drill those holes. You plan on driving it? It looks like you are building a show truck.

How well does it corner with those small wheels and castors?
On a serious note, how did you strip and prep the frame before painting?

The truck will not be a daily driver, but it will be driven. I want a show piece, but something we can go cruise in and have fun.
The frame was sandblasted and powder coated. The cab dolly needs some dubs, but the hardware store was out of dub castors! It was built out of 2x4's and it rolls very nicely. In fact I wish I would have bought castors with brakes as it will take off on you if not careful. I have a Visio document that illustrates the deminsion if you have Visio I can email that to you. Let me know. I think XXL has some deminsions on his web site. His are close to what I used. Thanks for the compliments!

What did you do to get the fenders, doors and cab line to match? I have seen several posts where others were asking those questions and looking for some help. How to and hints would be great.
BTW...that is really sweet! I had to drill the same holes in Orence1's frame for his BB mounts.

progress - that is a good question. I basically started with the doors. The reason is because the door only has so much wiggle room to begin with. Once we had the door close in both directions (up/down and front/back) we worked on the angle of the door from top to bottom. If you are reusing doors that came off your cab they should still be pretty close. In my case, I was using different doors so every angle needed adjusted. It is for sure a two person job.
Anyway, once the doors were close (we only snugged a couple bolts on the hinges) we set the fender. Granted it is not perfect because the cab is not mounted to the frame, but it gave me an idea of the body line for the cab corners. We lined up the fenders (this was a big check to make sure the lower front cab pillars I replaced were in the correct spot...they were) and then the cowl. By doing this first it will also let me know if anything "sprung" a little while all the bad stuff was cut out. I found that my passenger side didn't move at all, but the drivers side did expand a little. It can easily be pulled back when I put the rocker in. I hope this helps. I have just put a lot of thought into each step and taken a zillion measurements before and after. If you need any specific pics let me know. It looks like I need to clean off my camera lense! LOL

1971Stepside, That helps, and like any good answer just leads to more questions. I removed and reworked a badly damaged fender and could not get it perfect. I obtained another fender, bolted it on it was impossible to align. The third fender I could get the body line matching but had to slide it back so now the hood line is off...I am chasing this thing around the truck to the other side...LOL! I have seen some show trucks that are laughable when it comes to body panel alighnment. I guess the more you know the more critical you get. I talked to a local custom shop that has had national show winners. They confided that they will sometimes remove body panels and add 1/16 to 1/8" to the edges of the panels then grind them back to make them "perfect"!
Sorry for the long post but I will be very curious as to how this works out. I think the sequence is important and if you could document the process it would help lots of us. Thanks

Progress, I will be happy to document all of this as I go. This is my first time tearing one down this far, so I am learning as I go. It really went back together slick on the test fit, but I know once it is on the frame it will get more challenging.
Is your cab on the frame? If so, you may try loosening up your cab mounts a little until you get the front clip settled into place. The springs and motor mounts are powder coated with a Grey Hammertone color from Cardinal Coatings. It is a very long ways from done, but thank you guys for the compliments. Those keep a guy motivated.

OK, looks like it worked. What I found on mine is that the entire thing could be about 2 inches wider where the cab sits on the top. So, use this to get you close. Good luck.
