GMC 351 V6 "M" Engine Parts

Does anybody where to get parts for these engines? I need a oil pan for 351 V6 M. Do they have the same bolt pattern as the chevy 305/350 v8 oil pan?

Re: GMC 351 V6 "M" Engine Parts

No oil pan... but there's quite a few parts for 305 and 351 V-6's on ebay...

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trks...51+V6&_sacat=0

Froma little digging I did on Google... it sounds like a pan for a 305 V-6 might fit.

Re: GMC 351 V6 "M" Engine Parts

Some parts are available for these engines new but very few, we recently sourced a fuel pump for one at the local parts distributor(star auto parts) but stuff like oil pan will have to be sourced used, have to hunt around.

The V6 has a skirted block like the Ford FE. It has no dent where it goes over the crank.

Re: GMC 351 V6 "M" Engine Parts

I received this info below about the oil pans, from one of the very knowledgeable Guys; Lewis Matkin, from the 6066 GMC website. Parts CAN be found on Craigslist; not always in your region or by direct order, but I have purchased many parts from the CL including my 401M.

http://www.adhuntr.com/ used to be Allofcraigs

http://www.mecanicapedrosa.com/

all GMC V6 engines carry the same pan configuration. The only
difference is the depth of the pan. The 305 pickup engine has a shallow oil
pan and may not allow the oil-driven govenor spinner asm to be installed on
the pump. It is a 5-qt. pan. However, if he finds one from a
305-351-401-379-432-478 out of a 4000 series or larger truck it should work.
Most of these pans are at least 8-qt. capacity and will bolt up to any of
these engines

Best of luck with your search, I'll keep my eye out as well.

Thanks for the 2nd link. I found pistons for the 351 V6 for $36. Emailed them to see if there still available and see if they have the connecting rods also.

I also need pistons and connecting rods now too. Found broken pieces of a connecting rod and piece of the piston skirt. Thanks to all the replies.

351M do show up on CL for sale , it sounds like it would be cheaper to find a used engine.

Re: GMC 351 V6 "M" Engine Parts

A lot of the parts are the same. If you have a 351M, it came from a medium duty truck, 351E's were installed in light trucks 66-69. The "M" and "E" engines use a different intake and heads with bigger ports for increased air flow, the 351C uses smaller ports like the 305E. "C" and "M" engines (medium duty) use pistons with 4 rings instead of 3. There are plenty of parts for these engines around, it's just a matter of finding them.

I was told by cayoterun that they were the same as far as he knew. He said the immigration motors where different cause they used propane or natural gas. I couldnt find anything on jolleys site about a 4 ring piston.

Dav,

First join Jolly's 6066 Yahoo group it is dedicated to the V-6 in all its forms. Next when searching ebay punch in this search string 196* GMC anything listed for 1960-1969 GMC should pop up. The * serves as a wild card feature and will encompass and include all year items.

There is a misconception that the V-12 was just 2 v-6 welded together, nit true. Here is a link to the national club, read to your hearts content.

Hopes this helps.
