I just read a post from 2005, where some one said you could convert a 2x4 frame to a 4x4. Is this possible. I thought they were completely different.

No it is not. I don't know how to give you the link but check out Legacy build,
Dunenutt did a very nice job on his, Its from his fathers old truck. So you can make a 2 x 4 a 4 x 4.
