Hey all can i take the side cover off a three speed manual trans to just inspect? Will i be able to look and put it back on without anything gettingout of whack? Thanks guys! The trans is a older non syncro 1st.

Yes. Just put it in nuetral. THe shift forks slide over the gears inside. Tip the cover out leaving the bottom part of it close to the tranny to see how the forks slide in place inside. Just go slow. Shouldn't be a problem.

Ok great I was thinking that was the case and just wanted to make sure. I was gonna do it while still in truck. So my plan was to keep it level so nothing will slide and go take a look. Thank.

Drain it first. Then tip it out but from the bottom first cause you're leaving it in. Then you'll need a new gasket.
