Parting out my '63 might be the answer ...
I hate to say it, but doing so would help my quest in building the 'Burb.
1) The doors on the truck are REALLY nice compared to the ones on 'Burb.. 2) The trucks hood, would give up it's sheetmetal for repairs... 3) The bed would also give up some of its sheet metal for lower quarter repairs. Along with front eye brow, and a pillars repairs. 4) Truck has the donor (uncut) double hump dash (if I go that route, starting to like GMC dash) 5) I've been slowly collecting disk brake parts for the '63 Crossmember, which could be swapped. Etc..... At the same time, besides it needing small floor patches, the truck is solid. If I try and sell the truck as is, I could probably only get $1000-$1500 MAX. I dont think this would get me all the parts/sheet metal for the 'Burb. Really convinient having access to sheetmetal/parts so close to each other. Guess I could always sell the Big Back Window and sheetmetal when I'm done with it ?

My first response was going to be for you to do it.
I liked your reasoning of having it all right there to get what you need. But then reading the following posts, I now have to agree with the others. Don't hack yours up, but rather get a donor and hack it up. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Parting out my '63 might be the answer ...
No!!!!!! That would be a shame to part out a solid and complete truck. They're getting harder and harder to find, and in another 10 years you'd be kicking yourself that you parted it out. Go look at the metalwork required in my '65 Resto thread and see what kind of trucks we're starting with out here- we'd kill to have a truck that solid!! I've seen this in the VW bus world; they're now mourning over busses they cut up or parted out in the 80's and 90's. You'll regret it, even if it did get your burb on the road sooner.

Re: Parting out my '63 might be the answer ...
One day all we'll have left to restore will be rusted out hulks like this. This is what the barndoor VW guys are having to start with nowdays, since all the decent busses were pillaged for parts and sheetmetal sections years ago when they were "easy to find". Let's save all that we can now!
Here's the thread if you want to see more details of the rebuild. You won't ever whine about what rust you have anymore. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=471779

ok, Ok, OK !!
I get it .... You all are right. I was just trying to cut back on some projects and kill 2 birds with 1 stone.... Did I mention that it has a nice auto column that I could use with my 700r4 in the burb ? Posted via Mobile Device

I'll buy the cab if it's solid and has a clear title, Will you include the deluxe seat? Let's find out about shipping to Montreal.

Nice to see another samba member here.
I agree don't cut it up, trading parts between the two isn't as bad, so maybe trade the doors for example, at least the truck will still have doors, just not as nice. But if you want to give away inner door panels I won't tell |

Don't cut it! That truck looks good and it is getting harder to get one in that condition. I wish mine looked so good. I would hunt around and find for your parts.

Re: Parting out my '63 might be the answer ...
I know all about the rareness of the barndoors .... Big money is those !!
Well, Im gonna hunt down two sets of cowl extentions . I can use the curvature to repair the hood. I have a spare longbed on my '63 c-20 chassis that I can use the lower/rear portion of fender well and bedside to repair quarter ... Still gonna need to some A-pillar work, though....

Re: Parting out my '63 might be the answer ...
Now you're talking sensable
There's probably some forum members that may have the parts you are in need of. What A-pillar part do you need? I have a couple parts cabs. I'll have to look and see if I have a couple extra cowl extensions left. Quote:

I'll check and see what my roof clip looks like, but I'm pretty sure it's that bad or worse.

Re: Parting out my '63 might be the answer ...
Let me take a closer look at my 2 parts cabs. I have a '61 and a '63 cab. Do you need the center piece above the windshield all the way from left joint to the right joint?

i say use some of the parts you need but only bolt on stuff... dont hack up the sheet metal!!! you can always bolt the missing parts back on the truck later on
