5 or 6 lugs?

So I went to look at a truck today for sale and it had everything I was looking for, except a short bed... Add on ac, coil rear end, original wheels, and when I popped off a hubcap 5 lugs....so why did some trucks come with 5 lug and some with 6?

Re: 5 or 6 lugs?

1971 and 1972 got the 5 lugs with disc brakes. The earlier trucks came with 6 lugs. The 3/4 tons should have 8 lugs.

Re: 5 or 6 lugs?

Ahh ok that makes sense. I just saw everyone wanting to do a 6 to 5 lug swap, but that must have been for the earlier years. Thanks.

That is correct. Before they made the 6 lug disk brake kits, the main reason to switch over to 5 lugs was to get disk brakes. Another reason was 5 lug wheels had more styles, but since GM went back to 6 lug on 1/2 ton trucks that isn't as much of an issue any more.
