C10/DD comforts
I'm planning on fixing up the C10 to be a daily driver. I'd like it to be as comfortable as possible...and reliable. (Not a necessity but I did swap in a 5.3/4l60e already.) If it gets there, I'm gonna sell my '03 Nissan.
All my previous 67-72 chevy drivers have been beaters that leaked, had rust, no a/c, noisy, with no carpet and overall pretty rough. (My K5 has Al's Liner and no top and therefor it's hard to judge.) So, all you guys with sound deadener, carpet, nice upholstery, a/c, stereo system, working gauges, power doors/windows, tinted windows, etc... Do you think your truck is comparable to the ride in a newer vehicle? Is the road noise cut down? Any "must haves" or regrets?

Well, my 68 was leaky, drafty, noisy, rattly and all that other you expect from an old truck before the resto. After all new seals, sound deadener, insulation, carpet, etc., it's nowhere near as bad as it was, but still leaks water, is still drafty, and still noisy. It's not my DD anymore either. It doesn't have a/c either, but even if it did, it would still be an old truck.
This isn't a truck, but this video certainly shows the comparible differences between old and new. So, in comparison to a newer vehicle, they're nowhere close as far as all the creature comforts. To me, though, that's what gives old trucks their character. My 05 GMC Sierra is nice, but it's kinda boring and not much of a pleasure to drive, but the 68 is an great experience every time. I sometimes really miss it as a DD.

I don't think you will ever achieve the "Couch rolling down the road" comfort and ease of driving in a classic truck that the newer ones have.That said,one of the things I love about my 68 is that I actually have to drive it.If you do get to where it has all the creature comforts,and quietness of a new car/truck,I think you will have killed part of what makes a classic,a classic.To me the standard of adding sound control.A/C and the features you described are just ways to enhance the truck.I don't really care for power windows,one piece windows,shaved drip rails(it does help with noise,I'm told).
Member Andy(I don't remember the # but he posts in red) has a DD he built to drive.It has a lot of the things you mentioned if not all.It's probably the best example of what you describe as I've ever seen.He's added what he felt he needed in a DD without losing the style and charm of a classic.

All in what you wanna do.The wife and I just took a 1500 mile cruise in our 71 and loved it.All the thumbs up and chatter about the ol truck during has stops and what not more than made up for any comforts we were lacking. Now my wife uses the 71 as a dd here,lol.

I like my truck to be comfortable but i don't want it to be like a 2012 model. I love the feeling driving an old vehicle there is no comparison. I don't need fuel injection, power windows/locks,etc... less junk on a vehicle = more reliable also. I do like AC it's just so stupid hot and humid here, i have a 75 nova that drives and rides better than my new model daily driver and it's mostly stock.

I guess I'm getting caught up in "wanting my cake and eat it, too!"
The reality, like most of us, is I just enjoy driving around in these trucks. I do remember, however, about 4 years ago I sold my Avalanche and commuted to work on a motorcycle for a year.... the novelty wore off after some commutes were during temps in the 30's and the rain. I went out and bought the Nissan before the next winter. I guess I'm just a little gun shy...

Like everyone says, it will never be a new truck or as quiet as the Nissan. If you have good weather striping, quality sound deadener and a quiet exhaust, I dont see why it wouldn't be DD material. I mostly depends on one persons personal level of what is acceptable. You're already steps ahead with the 5.3L and 4L60e. I would make sure to have cruise control and AC.
