Coolant leak/ need advice please.
here is the deal. I was able to track down my coolant leak. It is coming from a rubber Spout behind a heat shield on passenger side directly under the a/c Drier.
The spout leads to the cab from the firewall on passenger side. I can only assume that it is the Heater core, but I am no expert. if it is the Heater core does any one know why it is leaking? and what is the purpose for this spout?

Re: Coolant leak/ need advice please.
The spout is the condensation drain for th a/c. If it is indeed coolant its time to change the heater core. You can bypass the heater core if you want. That will keep you going until it gets cool.

Go to the hardware store and get a 3/4 inch to 5/8 inch hose adapter and hook the 2 hoses together. Just use regular hose clamps instead of the original spring clamps.

Re: Coolant leak/ need advice please.
Are you losing coolant? that is where the A/C drain is. The condensasion fromrunning the a/c will come out right there. Try driving a while [if you can] with no a/c on I know it is hot out so do it early in the day then look under there and see that it has stopped. Now if you are indeed losing coolant you should probably look somewhere else as the heater core would leak inside the truck cab with you most likely. [like 99.9 time out of 100]. My money [if I had any and were a betting man would be on the a/c making condensasion that is very normal. Jim

Re: Coolant leak/ need advice please.
Yes I am losing coolant. I know that a little water is normal, but I am losing water even with the a/c off and truck idling in the driveway. I cant tell if it is coolant because by the time I noticed that I needed coolant it had all already leaked out. I refilled with water for the time being. any way ... with a/c off it continues to leak from that tube. I have to refill the overflow tank several times a day driving. I did a google search and it seems that a few other people have had this happen but on the forums they posted on they never followed up with a solution. I plan on flushing the water and refilling with coolant to see if I can spot the colored fluid.

Re: Coolant leak/ need advice please.
I recently had the heater core fail on my 2006 GMC crew. I didn't notice coolant running out the condensation drain tube. I had coolant leaking down the floor inside the cab and steam coming from the vents. Green soaked carpet. Mine was repaired under a warranty. O'Riellys has a new heater core listed for about $80. These guys charged mine out at about $269 or so plus labor. Over $1100 total bill. I was glad to have it covered.

Re: Coolant leak/ need advice please.
In all the videos I've watched of it being done on youtube, it's one hell of a job replacing one. You basically have to rip the entire dash out, as well as discharge the A/C, which of course means recharging it as well. That's why shops charge A LOT of $ to do it.
DexCool is only good for 5 years or 100K, whichever is FIRST. It's highly recommended it gets flushed.

Re: Coolant leak/ need advice please.
Thanks for that video link Jesse. I can see now why they charged so much for the job. Also glad I didn't have to do it myself.
