High Sierra 2500 info
Hey guys, we have a 83 high Sierra 2500 , 8 lug , v8 truck, that i am thiking of yanking the V8 out of.
Did these come with 350 or could it possibly even be a 305 ? Also how could i check what type of tranny it has ? It looks bigger than my TH350 so i am thinking TH400 ? Vin is 1gtgc24m8ds510685 |

Re: High Sierra 2500 info
There's a couple ways to get at this:
First, your VIN: 1 = US built G = GM T = GMC truck G = brake system C = reg cab 2wd 2 = 20 series 3/4 ton 4 = regular cab M = 5.7 L V8 8 = check digit D = model year = 83 S = St Louis assembly plant 5 = GMC 10685 = sequence nunmber So - it's a 5.7, with a TH400 trans (if the non-overdrive trans was selected; MXO = overdrive vs MX1 = non). Secondly, here is the GM Heritage Center info pack, which will explain (in general) all of the RPOs that were available for your truck: http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-h...olet-Truck.pdf Powertrain chart is shown on page 15. Lastly, if you want to spend $50 you can send your VIN to the Heritage Center and they will send your original invoice, which includes the RPO content and pricing for your specific truck. http://www.gmmediaarchive.com/ K

Re: High Sierra 2500 info
Thanks!! Really appreciate it.
what is the main difference between the 350/400 tranny ? The TH400 is just beefier ? |

Quote:
They are a different case (ie, modulator in different location, etc) but the TH400 is heavier duty. K
