Radiator, doesn't look right

Yesterday I noticed the radiator in my 72 GMC 4X4 was leaking, while trying to find the leak I noticed the rad doesn't fill up the top and bottom mounts, theres a 3/4" gap in the rubber cushions fitted in the mounts. I looked at my 69 and it's radiator fills the mounts. I also noticed the bottom of the shroud has a 3/4" gap at the bottom. Then I noticed the PO had cut a four inch piece of the bottom half of the shroud where it wraps around the fan. I think I have the wrong radiator and that's why it doesn't fill the mounts and the gaps and cut shroud. Did GM use different rads for my truck or did someone use the wrong one? By the way, I still can't find the leak! Any tricks finding a hidden leak? I have two extra radiators but a squirrel filled them with acorns and I can't get them all out! I tried for an hour, I got most out but can still hear several bouncing around that refuse to come out! The same squirrel also filled my MIG with acorns, I may find out what squirrel tastes like if he does it again.

I know that there is a 2 core and a 4 core. Sounds like you should have a 4 core and thats why it isn't filling all of the available space in the rubbers. Does your spid say "heavy duty cooling" on it? If it does then I think it is supposed to have a 4 core.

Sucks about the squirrel. I had mice do that to my Novas radiator when I had it out a long time ago.

My 69 has two core radiator but fills the mounts, that why I think it's wrong in my 72, if I loosen the mounts I could easily move the top or bottom back and forth, they wouldn't mount one that could do that would they? As for the squirrel, I still can't figure out how he got the acorns inside my MIG, the acorns were inside the case, I had to take it off to get them out, there isnt even a hole big enough to fit one through! I must have a squirrel that's handy with a screwdriver! Unfortunately the PO put a chrome glove box door in my truck so I don't have the spid so I'm clueless what it came with, that brings up another question, can I find out what was on it using the serial number?

Thats what I'm talking about with the radiator mounts. A 2 core will have smaller mounts than a 4 core because of the tank size.

Squirrel tastes like chicken! My grandad was from Mississippi and we had it a few times. Anyone one on the board from the South will attest to this! (Most will have eaten squirrel). THe only problem is killing it without freaking out the neighbors if oyu live in town. My brother lived in the city limits and had a bunch of them in his garage attic. He figured out where they were getting in and he got the neighbor to put his dauchsund in there to flush them out. He was waiting with a .22 pistol with rat shot and got three of them before the neighbors called the cops. When they showed up he explained and showed him the rat shot. THey laughed it off and left, but technically discharging a firearm within city limits is typically a NO NO.

Haven't tried squirell but as a kid in Orange county (carbon canyon) we ate plenty of rattlesnake! It tastes like chicken too! A few more bones though. We would see at least six a day, when they got close to the house they got the death penalty. We would skin them and put them in the freezer, a couple times they would crawl around in the freezer and wrap themselves around a rack so much we would have to cut them out when they froze. It was a little creepy to know a dead, skinned rattlesnake could still slither around.

I'll say.
There are several fan shrouds and radiators to fit our trucks, depending on the application.
small block
big block
standard cooling
hd cooling
Yours may be a mix.

Re: Radiator, doesn't look right

Well I can't find the leak and don't like the way my rad fits anyway so I'm looking for a new one. Anyone have suggestions on what and where to buy? Thanks!

Re: Radiator, doesn't look right

I bought one from O'Rielly's a 4 core and it has been great. It was $180. All steel.
