Adding G60 Aux LEAF spring to K20 need help w pics for install please
Adding OEM G60 aux LEAF springs to my K20 and the frame is getting blasted now. Assembly manual didn't have a diagram that I could find nor could I find much help on prior threads. Could really use some more pics showing rear bracket placement to aid in the install. Below are some example pics from Krazyray. Would greatly appreciate any pics. Thanks, Pete

Re: Adding G60 Aux LEAF spring to K20 need help w pics for install please
Pete,
Thought about this last night and did some checking today on your request. The first problem I see is that the G60 Aux Springs were not offered on the K20 as an RPO option. The stock 2000lbs or the optional G50 2500lbs springs were the only factory choices in '72. That said there were aftermarket "helper spring" applications for just about anything. So why do you want the G60 springs? They are rated at 4150lbs each! That is well above the factory rating of 5200lbs for your rear axle. They are heavy! The G50 adds 23lbs, but the G60 adds 73lbs. If you are trying to carry a slide-in camper/fifth wheel a set of airbags would be a better if not correct choice, but then the G60s are not correct either. If you must have them the first place to start would be the the free arch of the stock K20 springs vs the G60s you have. As the K20 specs about 3 1/4 " taller than a C20 this is going to make a problem with the frame brackets. It would likely require the aux leaf pack to be spaced above the main pack to allow contact with the factory bracekts. The Factory Parts Catalog is helpfull but only so far. It does not list the free arch only length, width, leave count, front to center pin and center pin to rear. Be happy to provide documentation upon request. But if you are going to do this the truck needs to be on its axles with G60 packs in place to detemine where to mount the frame brackets

Re: Adding G60 Aux LEAF spring to K20 need help w pics for install please
Tim -
Thanks for taking the time to reply!!! The only reason I wanted to add the springs is to have one more factory option - I'm that shallow I don't plan on hauling anything even close to where I'd need these springs. Didn't consider that the G60's were not available for a K-truck (or that houndstooth isn't correct on buckets - doh!). Pete

Re: Adding G60 Aux LEAF spring to K20 need help w pics for install please
Here are some pictures I dug out of my files of a "known" G60 C30 Chassis Cab and a clip from the '71 section of the assembly manual.
Glad to be of help. It was one of the technical questions I like to dig for. Collecting options is OK and some people really like adding items. But if they are not correct someone is going to bust ya! :-) I'll try and think up something cool and different for your truck to quest, buy and install.

Re: Adding G60 Aux LEAF spring to K20 need help w pics for install please
Thanks again Tim. The diagram doesn't indicate where the rubber stops mount - that was puzzling me the most. I made an honest effort to find that diagram in the assembly manual - my legs went numb on several occasions. Haven't found a better bathroom read LOL!
Feel free to challenge me on something cool to add (passed on manual throttle)! Pete
