th400 drama, new pics of the madness going on.
So. the cross member was held on with 4 bottom bolts of which only 3 had a nut on it. Nothing on the top rail was bolted. Looking at the bracket from when I started this I noticed it was kind of sagging or one of the bolts was crooked. Just figured it wasn't tightened all the way or it was cross threaded... NOPE. even better, The area where the tranny mount goes is alomst completely cut off and a chunk of it is missing. AWESOME. I didn't notice it at first because it was caked on with sooo much dirt (3rd pic). Found the majority of the tranny leak was from the speedometer missing an O-ring (at least I think that is why).
Anyways. I am replacing the torque converter as when it was running it sounded like there was rocks tumbling around the tranny tunnel. While I have the tranny out I am going to replace the following- front seal rear seal Speedo seal speedo O-ring modulator. If you guys see something I am missing let me know. I am not really touching the tranny too much as it shifted nice and hard and the torque converter was locking up killing the motor. *also, how are you guys hooking up your kickdown electronics? photos would be nice. |

any ideas on the thickness of this crossmember? Going to get a piece tomorrow and weld it in. Drilling new holes in it should be fun....

Re: th400 drama, new pics of the madness going on.
Couple of questions here.
What is the point of splitting things up and starting yet another thread on this problem trans.? What makes you think that the trans. is OK if the TC is bad? Did you go or even talk to your trans. shop as you intended in your last post? Did you identify the trans. you have (by case tag) since it appears to be earlier than your truck? (see previous thread).

Re: th400 drama, new pics of the madness going on.
Sorry about the different thread. I should have just posted the photos in that thread. If the powers that be want to they can delete this one and I will continue back on the other. Spoke with the tranny guy on rebuilding trans but after further research I decided this was the best route possible. I appreciate the help with identifying trans link and I have not yet had time to do that. This is just a weekend warrior and not my DD so I will take the chance on it for now. Plus, if a rebuild I'd necessary I want to do it myself anyways. Thanks again, sorry for new post.
