Disc Brake Front Parts List by Year

This info is found at the very end of this thread:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...68&postcount=4

As these trucks get older and changes hands from owner to owner,... I get more and more PM's about people trying to figure out what the previous owner has done to his truck.
It use to be, that all the drum brake 60-70 trucks we buy still have the drum brakes up front.
I'm seeing an increasing number of questions coming from members that have a truck with disc brakes already installed.
Most are fine.
71-72 parts swapped, or 73-87 parts swapped.
But some are kind of scarey.
Just because parts bolt together doesn't mean they are correct.
(I will fill in some missing info as soon as I can)

Again,... here's the breakdown of the front end parts by year:

Re: Disc Brake Front Parts List by Year

ok, I'm so lost/confused as what I need to do to swap my 69 3/4 ton 8 lug drums for disc...I was told I can simply just buy a whatever yr 67-72 truck disc parts as long as it came from a 3/4 ton or c20. I know I need spindles, rotors and calipers but what else? And is that true about as long as it came from a c20 or 3/4 ton I'm ok? Also what are my options for the rear? I think I have the eaton rear end. but not even sure about that...well any help you can give is very welcomed...As I'm not sure what I need...

thanks,
Betty

You need parts from any 71-72 C20 truck.
(or 73-87 C20 truck)
You need everything from the a-arms out.
I would also get all the steering linkage.
The 71-72 Master Cylinder and prop valev will work the best.
Are you just planning on swapping 40 year old parts onto your truck,... or are you rebuilding EVERYTHING as you go?

Do you have P/S?
Are you wanting disc brakes for the rear also?

Re: Disc Brake Front Parts List by Year

hmmm so i can't just swap out the spindles, rotors, calipers, and brake hoses?
My a arms won't work? Now I did aquire lmc truck parts these are the part numbers..
2- #34-2024 Outer tie rod end
2- #34-1924 Inner tie rod end
2- #34-1124 Adjuster sleeves w/ pwr str.
1- #34-2120 Idler arm
will these still work for me?
why would I need the steering linkage? and what part is that exactly?
I don't currently have power steering or brakes...but when I bought truck PO included a steering shaft and gearbox ( i will attach those pics) I am also wanting to add power brakes too. Now let me ask this about the power brake option..can I just buy the brakets and bolts with support arm and then buy from autozone the master cylinder and brake booster? I seen someone asking on here for the "rod" would I need that or would it come with the booster? Cause if I can buy new and local I eliminate shipping costs and possible duds...
And yes I am wanting to add disc to the rear as well...maybe and probably not right away but at some point.

Re: Disc Brake Front Parts List by Year

I'll try to answer your question in detail later when I get home.
Ball joints, tie rods, centerlink, adjuster sleeves are different.
Your a-arms are the same.

Anyone else care to jump in and help?

Re: Disc Brake Front Parts List by Year

This is great info. Thank you.

Can someone comment or add the interchange for ball joints to a-arms.

For example, can I mount 73-87 ball joints on 63-70 a-arms? What are the year breakdowns there?

Thanks!

The balljoints will swap from any 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton UPPER a-arm from 63-87 (maybe 60-62 also)

All the 1/2-ton LOWER a-arms will interchange 1/2-ton only balljoints. (63-87)

And all the 3/4-ton LOWER will interchange 3/4-ton only ball joints. (63-87)
(the 3/4-ton balljoint hole, in the lower a-arm, is larger than the 1/2-ton version)

Re: Disc Brake Front Parts List by Year

Bringing this back to the top.

I had a member PM me this week asking about 73-87 idler arms.
The parts stores (local and online) show 2 different part numbers.
The part number break is:
67-82
83-87

So I stopped by my local parts store to see what the deal was.
The 67-82 version is the same on both ends.
The 83-87 has one end of the idler arm, that is smaller.

So I assume the 83-87 (and 88-91 2wd burbs) have a smaller hole in the idler arm "frame bracket".
(because all the 73-87 centerlinks are the same)

Before I could PM the member,... he had already done the same thing at his parts store,... and had sent me a PM to confirm what I had found.

I really appreciate his efforts.
I adjusted my original post to reflect what we found.

If anyone else sees an error on the above list,... please bring it to my attention.
I just want to get the correct info out there!
