impossible header question
Hello folks, i have my 68 C20. In it is a 84 BBC 454. Behind that is a SM465. I have ordered 3 sets of headers from summit racing. Their tech support told me each time they would work with my clutch linkage. They have now gone to the point that they have informed me that the $500 coated headers will work. If that is the price i do have to pay for a set of long tubes so be it i am ready, however i want to know they will work! What longtube headers will fit my pickup? Does anyone out there have a clue? I have been head over heels for over a year trying to find some without luck. I appreciate all your help. Thank you.

Re: impossible header question
Several questions come to mind. Is it a BB truck or is it modified from another engine installation? Did you use factory location, mounts and towers? Did you get the Z bar situation squared away? Where is the linkage hitting/binding?
But then....Since you want a 5 speed, how about a NV4500 and a hydraulic clutch? Kidding

Re: impossible header question
it is a factory SBC truck, the engine is in the vehicle just as the factory would do it with all factory components. z bar is squared away. it hits on the number 7 exhaust primary pipe. i have considered just going to the 5 speed now but for misc reasons i am waiting

Re: impossible header question
Did some checking and from the Hooker installation instructions it would seem bolt in. Might give their tech people a call.
But... I also found this little thread today. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=540789 Wes of Classic Heartbeat Pickup Parts says that the bellhousing crossmember and the Z-bar frame mounts are Big Block specific. The parts manual would also seem to back that up from just a quick look. I'd give Wes a call. If the engine isn't sitting right the headers will not fit. At this point it would probably be prudent to verify, towers, engine mounts, block pivot, Z-bar, Z-bar frame mount/bracket and bellhousing crossmember are all actually BB parts and from applicable model years for your truck. Once the engine is located then I'm thinking that fitting a set of headers should work out.
