Re: Exaust through sport bumper?

Figure out the hole size you need and get a bi-metal hole saw the correct size. You can use your drill and take your time and it shouldn't generate much heat at all.

Just make sure to use some high temp paint (like VHT high temp header paint) around the edges of the hole or it will rust.

yNot sure a hole saw will work, trying to get a 1/2 round hole.Seen it before on some muscle cars and I like it.Maybe a steady hand and a plasma cutter, mainly curious if the chrome can withstand the heat.

Re: Exaust through sport bumper?

I thought about doing this but using an old new dodge truck rear bumper for the cut outs.

I had the same idea. I just don't want any other brand parts on my Chevrolet. I was looking mine over the other day wondering how it would look with cut outs in the bumper.

Re: Exaust through sport bumper?

The chrome will turn blue like a motorcycle exhaust pipe if u heat it too much. You could use a big hole saw and them touch up the paint. The chrome might still chip though. It would most likely have to be rechromed to keep it from rusting and chipping. If you can get away with just painting the edges then you will be lucky. Depends on the quality Of the original chrome job.

Re: Exaust through sport bumper?

The problem is that he wants HALF a round hole - can't do that with a hole saw. I think you're going to end up re-chroming your bumper if you cut it, because the chrome is likely to get very discolored and might want to flake away from the steel underneath.

They make carborundum blades for jigsaws and sawzalls, but I've never tried them on chrome.

10-4 on the "not being able to use a hole saw"Truckster.Nowhere for the pilot bit to bite on a half round hole. Thanks for the taping idea, its a repro sport bumper so my thoughts are the chroming is subpar.Maybe someone has a pic?

Re: Exaust through sport bumper?

i'd check the cost of replating your bumper b4 doing anything

i'd think just cuttin the hole will b it for the original chrome// not to mention to just cut a hole with no finishing will look gunky and hacked

Re: Exaust through sport bumper?

cover the whole area with green masking tape. layout your lines and use a zig saw with a super fine blade. leave a bit of the line and die grind up to it. then paint it while the tape is still on. maybe some spray on galvanizing would work good on the edge.
