68 swb "parts truck" turned resto
So......Here I go again. My previois build thread was a disaster. After new rockers, corners, roof, well everything, the new body shop said i neede another cab. So this is where this story begins.
I found this truck on CL. Went to look at it for the cab, the ad said rust free. Well it was. It was in good enough shape that I will put my bed on it and go with it. I drove it 79 miles back to my place. The original 250 ran like a sewing machine. The only two downfalls are the new stepside bed and the rear has been converted to leaf springs. Atleast its solid, which is rare for se georgia. this truck must have been kept away before the last person got ahold to it. all original interior and sanded and primed outside. tell me what you think. Re: 68 swb "parts truck" turned resto
I have heard alot of good things about the 250. It runs great. I will probably put my 350 and 700r4 tranny in it, which only has a little over 5k on both. I have been told that I will have absolutly no complaints with the 250 though.

Posted via Mobile DevicePulled the glass out. The back is flawless, but the front was leaking and puddling up on the dash.

It still has all the factory corners, rockers, etc. The passenger side was a little dented but rust free.

Re: 68 swb "parts truck" turned resto
Take a old fools advise, if it runs, rides, and drives good LEAVE IT ALONE. Many good trucks have been took apart with the best intentions, and end up sold because they don't have an ending place once you start. Been there, done that.

Re: 68 swb "parts truck" turned resto
Thanks Ron 586. That is exactly the aproach that I am taking with this one. My previous build was frame off and is still in that condition. The cab was just too bad.
With this one I am painting it and driving it. All the other stuff can come on the weekends. I am leaving the gas tank where it is and will not swap out the 250 with my 350 until it dies, which I have been told will be a long time. |

Re: 68 swb "parts truck" turned resto
So now it has gotten down to a color. Some of you could have warned me how difficult picking one out would be. I felt like it was a summer day and I was thirsting to death, standing in a store looking at all the choices of drinks.
I did finally decide to go some kind of metallic silver, but which one? My wife helped me decide by scraping up our brand new suv.....so to kill two birds woth one stone... 2013 Kia Sorento metallic silver it is. Paint code is 3D if any are curious. This is with 2 coats of base. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 68 swb "parts truck" turned resto
Those are six cylinder towers that someone has moved forward to the wrong holes. The lower bolt in each will either be missing or they drilled a new hole. Those aren't small block towers.

Shot the clear for the inside and jams. You cant tell from these pics but when we put it in the sun, I had to put my Costa's on. It is bright. We shot 3 coats base, 3 coats of clear.
