broken bolt in exhaust manifold
Any advice on how to remove an old broken stud bolt from my 1964 292 exhaust manifold - One of the (2) that that the intake manifold bolts on to?
Also - If I do a good through rebuild on my rochester 1bbl carb is it just about as good as buying a new carb? |

Re: broken bolt in exhaust manifold
Best to remove the manifold. If there is anything still sticking out, weld a washer to the nub, then weld something to the washer that you can get a vise grip on. Let it cool, you should be able to screw the stud out. Might take more than one time. Letting it cool is critical along with good weld penetration on the stud, the stud expands with the heat, letting it cool should break the stud loose.
The carb should be soaked in carb cleaner to make sure all the passages are clean, blow out all passages with about 20psi air pressure. Best results are to have a pro re build the carb. |
