Re: 700r4 question
What kind of suggestions are you looking for? Where to buy, how to do it, and such?

Re: 700r4 question
I have the trans just looking for how best to install it. I am assuming the drive shaft will need to be shortened and the converter lockup will need a kit. Tci kit? Etc.

Re: 700r4 question
A new cross member, unless you want to use you current and drill new holes in the frame. Shorten the drive shaft. If you have a lock up converter, yes you will need the lock up kit. If you have a non lockup converter, then you don't need it. You will need a kick down cable(TV cable). Need a rear tail for the transmission that runs a manual speedometer gear.
I think that is about it, but I could be missing something here. I can't recommend any certain kit for the lock up. I do know TCI provides pretty good products.

Re: 700r4 question
I have a converter. How do I know if it is a lockup or not
Will the yoke fit? Can you just cut it without cutting the drive shaft? Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 700r4 question
If you do a little searching you can find a one piece driveshaft out of a later model Swb chevy/ GMC w/ a 700r4 that will swap right on for $50-$100.
Also, be sure you have the TV cable adjusted correctly or you could ruin the trans iness than 5 miles! Posted via Mobile Device |

I believe all700r4 had lockup torque converters unlessit is an expensive aftermarket converter. No way to tell externally that I know of. It isthe electrical connector on the case. The yoke is not the issue. The shaft is. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 700r4 question
You have to have a yoke that has the same spline count as the output on your transmission. I would just take the truck and the drive shaft to a shop and have them cut it down, cause you want them to balance it else you will have a vibration. Make sure you have the bracket kit to hook up the kick down cable to your carb.
I have no clue on how to tell which torque convert you would have (lock up or non lock up).

Re: 700r4 question
i only had to have the drive shaft shortened. it was two piece but had them make one solid shaft and balance it. on my 700 it has a plug on the driver side for the lock up maybe check if yours has also. and not sure if i ran it right but i actually wired my own for lock up used a switched fed it 12 volt and it locks up fine when going down the highway. you just flick the switch on.
