new gas tank vs. coating old tank?
I need to either replace my gas tank or boil out and coat my old gas tank. I also have an old locking gas cap in the tank I have to get out (lost the key and had to punch it out 10 or 15 years ago - the base fell into the tank). Pricing to clean and coat the old tank is about $170 here in California. LMC has replacement tanks, brand new and pre coated, for about $200. I'm thinking the new tank is the way to go, what do you guys think? Is the LMC stuff good quality at good prices?

What is the reason you need to replace the tank? If it's rusted out then go new, but you just want peace of mind, I would clean and coat the old tank. Most new tanks are overseas reproductions that aren't the best fit. OEM seams and construction methods coupled with being cleaned and coated will fit correctly and last a while.

if paying someone else to coat tank better to get new one but if you can do it your self it would be a lot cheaper.
