Man, did I step in some &$%# today!

I have been meaning to go to my usual u-pull-it as of late but have not gotten a chance until today. This particular yard often has some neat stuff, albeit useless for most of my causes, but still fun to look through. As i was walking around the back i noticed 2 guys throwing a brand new mobile home fridge and stove in the back of their pickup that looked dated but never used. Turns out right in front of me was a 1984 Winnebago with 14,000 original miles on it that must have been purchased with serious aspirations but they fell through. The one guy mentioned to me that his friend turned him onto it because he was there when it was towed in...with a 14000 mile 454 and turbo 400! I peered through the window as i added all of these thoughts together and there it was......a like-new van tilt column with a short shaft like our trucks but with a neutral safety switch up high like the van. The only catch was the shifter linkage arm was cut with the blowtorch that pulled the front end apart, but i am thinking there are plenty of solutions for that, plus i might turn this column into a stick shift tilt. 50 bucks took it as is, but i am not going to complain since these are impossible to find here, the steering wheel is in top shape so i might use that too, and the cut arm is an easy fix.

Good score!! Should clean up/fix easily enough and the price was right.

Re: Man, did I step in some &$%# today!

I found this floor shifted tilt in a rv what caught my eye was the shifter was on the dash then i noticed it was a tilt.
my kid finally put it in his truck last weekend.
the colum was 4" short witch put the colum cup rite up to the dash
and gave some belly and elbow room
not bad for $20

I too got a hell of a deal on a 454/t400 from a rv
tore it outa the rv and later found it was done .30 over sometime in is 55k mi. life.
i put a small summit cam and some bolt ons and it flat out hauls azz in my pontiac
i also got the generator outa the rv and sold that for the cost of the whole set up
