I've been contacted by "Counting cars"...what do you think?

I got an email from a lady who does casting for the show "counting cars". About possibly appearing in an episode for the upcoming season 2.
I don't know much about the show. What all do you guys think?

I'm simply not thinking of selling our 1969 Firebird nor the truck project..

To me these reality shows are purely for entertainment. Somehow trading years of my work, $$ and sweat for 15 minutes of fame just isn't appealing.

But I must admit it would sure be fun to drink a few beers, shoot the sh$t and talk rides with Danny.....

I've seen that show and I understand your ambivalence. I don't have any advice to give but it is pretty cool that they contacted you.

Re: I've been contacted by "Counting cars"...what do you think?

I watched it the other night for the first time. They bought a 68 SWB truck with no bed on it for $4500. Basically painted it and added a bed, and sold it for $17K. They don't really show what they do as far as rebuilding/restoring....all you see at the end is a finished product. That is cool they asked you to be on the show. I would look into what is all involved for sure.

funny thing about that episode, they said it was a 68 SWB, when I saw it i thought that the frame looked really long to me between the cab and rear end, and when it was done with the bed on it...it was a LWB. Just wonderin if they know the difference?

To me it looked like a SWB all along. I've seen many people on there not sell their vehicles...

I noticed this too. Maybe you buy a low priced lwb and sell it to them for a swb price??

Funny thing is the truck was a long bed and the kept it a lond bed still saying it was a short bed. I think the show is just that a show just entertainment for the masses not really anything to do with reality. There suppose to be car guys in the industry and don't have a clue what there talking about or maybe there just reading what the writers have written for them. Everyone makes mistakes but to look like some hipster doofus just to get a TV show is not worth it to me. But it doesn't seem to bother Danny aka The Count.

I did not really pay that much attention (I assumed it was a SWB)...just what he paid for it, what they did to it, and what they sold it for. They did nothing to the interior, the truck still had the same cheap seats that came with it. They don't even pop the hood once. The one worker told the prospective buyer that the paint job alone cost 15K More power to him if he can flip a truck for that kind of coin. Like folks say though, it is a "reality" show and who knows what is real and what isn't.

Exactly.

I like the show...and the other ones mentioned, too. I just consider it "entertainment with a lot of b.s. along for the ride".
I think I like the guy.

But driving down the road and pulling folks over to "talk" about their cars? Very, very staged. Like wrestling.
So what?

The expertise and style of some of thir s*&t is questionable. More "So what?".

It's all about selling diapers, male enhancement, dish soap, and Geico insurance.

And we get to see some cars. The bikes are usually hideous.

So what? It's all fun.

And it ain't "Operation Repo"...Yetch!!!

Having been on reality tv for a couple seasons, you have nothing to fear. Its fun, especially if your not working. Just go with it. They cant force you to do anything you dont want to do. Danny the "Count" seems cool and I enjoy the show. He is always fair with prices when he does buy cars too.

Re: I've been contacted by "Counting cars"...what do you think?

I am flying out to Vegas later this week since my wife got a free room for a conference and i emailed counts customs about coming by. Kevin returned my email saying I was morethan welcome. I am not inthe buying mode, but I do have a restored 71 GMC (avatar) for sale. I plan to show them photos and if they want to give me my asking price it's all his! (they have to figure out how to get it from Austin Tx to Vegas!)

As for Fast and loud, it think that describes Richard to a T. He seems like a blow hard. I laughed when I said he would lose his ass on the 51 ford gasser and 78 fairmont drift car, then they did! IMO, he made an ass of himself the way he acted when he went to the auction and snorted tequila up his nose. WTF!!?!

You never snorted tequila before? AKA the "Chilly Willy". Actually, I haven't done that either but I was with a couple of recently deployed and discharged soldiers with that crazy look in their eyes one night. They asked the bartender to put shots of tequila on the bottom of upside-down shot glasses, then proceeded to snort it and make all kinds of faces and weird noises. Not a word was said, we were still standing there dumbfounded when security came and escorted us all out.

That long bed truck was kind of a laugh, but hey it's TV. I just can't believe that somebody paid all that coin for it, nothing special at all and the "flavor/design/theme/etc" was just yuck. But I watched, its better than whatever the wife is watching!

The only thing Ive seen with more BS than the car reality shows--is a feed lot.
Most of it is sooo fake its not even entertaining. They definitely target the "non car guys."

I had a good time in Vegas. The tour of Hoover Dam was the highlight. I made it to Rick's Restorations, Count's Kustoms and Gold and Silver Pawn as well. All three of those were about what I expected. Basically an instrument to convey T-shirts, etc.

Rick's did have some stuff they restored on display and the building is set up so that you can see into the various repair areas, but photos weren't allowed due to the fact that they were working on things that would be on future episodes. I spoke with Tyler and Brently and his dog Nana. The girls up front were nice and I bought at shirt with Brently's red 65 (?) chevy pickup on it. They offered to get him to sign it but he left before I could get him to sign it, so Rick signed it. I missed getting to see Kelly, too
;( I saw a visible gas pump, I think it was black and orange. it had been converted to serve beer. One of the girls said it would be on a future epsisode.

Count's had a lot of Danny's cars on display and another t shirt shop. The only person from he cast I saw was Scott the office manager. Other people got their picture taken with him, but I wasn't interested. I did see the purple 48 (?) cab over car hauler and flat black 57 (?) 3100pickup Danny is seen driving on several episodes. I also saw the black and white 57 Chevy 150 that they rebuilt for the Old Man on Pawn stars, but it had the doors and front clip off, engine and trans out (?) THey had a 32 Ford roadster, black with flames (I still have mine from when I was a kid) with a display that said it was the car that the Hot wheels car was made from. I am not a "bike guy", but to me the highlight of their shop was the "chopper" collection.

Gold and Silver Pawn was pretty much elbow to elbow. They had a 50's Hudson in back along with the Indian army bike Count's restored for them. I didn't see any of the cast.

It was raining off and on while I was there, or it probably been more crowded in all three. I gave two ladies from Wisconsin who were on foot a ride to a bus stop from Rick's. Funny thing is, I was last in Vegas 15 years ago and it rained then too!

All in all, they were all nice people and very accomodating.

IMO, I say if someone is interested in being on the show, go for it. I think that there is way too much thought being put into this. Don't sign any paperwork til you look it over well. They can't TAKE your truck from you. I have seen several episodes were people said no. The worst thng that could happen would be they would make a decent off that you you would have to consider.

Re: I've been contacted by "Counting cars"...what do you think?

The TV "one week build" scripted formula is getting old.
Its all in the script..
Who would rush to go to an auction to sell a car with no reserve???
Wheelers Dealers?? How come they rebuild a whole car but never, ever have labor costs..
Reality does not happen in episodes..
