Introduction

Hi, my name is Karl. I just bought a new old truck and I am hooked. I'm a recovering Pontiac fanatic as well.
Have no worries; I will not put a Pontiac motor in my truck nor a Chevy motor in my Pontiac.
I had no idea why I fell in love with my 63 short stepside big window C10. Well, I've been lurking on the forum here and I have some ideas after learning about some of the unique features that Chevy didn't keep after 1963. Even so, my lil heart speeds up when I look at my new truck.
I can't wait to start turning some wrenches after mining ideas and tips from the good folks here. I've already found a lot here that inspires me.
Thanks!
p.s. Just saw a nice 65 on craigslist here in Oregon for $1k: http://eastoregon.craigslist.org/cto/3327769888.html

Welcome Karl. I like the color combo and how the bedwood compliments it too. Are those exhaust cut-outs on the bottom?

Thanks for the compliment on the color(s). That was one reason I fell for this truck. It's a amateur job, but it has preserved the truck if nothing else. It will need paint and I'm inclined to stick with the colors. I'll change my mind and waffle, I'm sure. It appears to have had very little rust repair.

The previous owner installed the roll pan and put in taillights from a 65 Mustang. I'm not married to them, so I'm open to suggestions.

It's a 6 cylinder with a 4 speed. The motor is supposed to be fresh. I have no idea if it is at this point. I'm not sure how long before I dig into it. It came with a Painless wiring kit that is in the box. I'm leaning toward a 5.3 with a 5 speed manual. Ideas?

Thanks!
I seldom am up early. I did make it our early yesterday to go get this truck in Idaho. It was below freezing. I stopped for diesel and the attendant told it's been down to 20 degrees already. This is when I start dreaming about destinations south of here!

You got yourself a great looking truck. I love the big window and step side. My truck was purchased new from the chevy dealer in LaGrande.

Welcome to the forum. That's a great looking truck to start with. You can't go wrong with an LS swap. They fit really nice and there's a lot of info here on the site to help you along. (see engine and drivetrain section, LSX sub- forum)
Keep us informed of your progress with pictures of course. We love pics!!

Pictures will be no problem. I'm an editor by day and a photographer when I have time and as jobs come up. Rodeo photography is my niche (see Buckaroo Photography Oregon on Facebook), but I did quite a bit of car show photography 10-12 years ago. The photojournalist in me will enjoy documenting and sharing this journey.
