so i picked this truck up a few months back and i and i know little to nothing about it lol it is a 1965 GMC 4000 that is 4wd and has 2.5 ton? axles under it which i am told are factory. the problem is i can find almost no ifo on them other than the rear has a tag on it that says rockwell standard on it and i have seen lots of rockwells just none like these lol. it has a bigblock v6 in it mated to a 5 speed manual trans with granny low. other than that i know nothing about it any info or help on this truck would be greatly appreciated!
here are a few pictures of the truck as a refrence i am 6 feet tall here is the tag on the rear axle housing rear axle from the back rear axle from the front rear wheel end numbers stamped in housing on the front axle on the drivers side next to the pumpkin numbers on front axle housing on drivers side next to the steering knuckle front axle from the front front axle front rear front wheel end |

Re: 1965 gmc 4000
Didn't see this one till after the big controversy. It is a a factory GMC KV4000 modified into some type of big foot vehicle (running boards and fenders extensions have been removed and wide single wheels and pickup bed added. Most all came with dual type wheels like in this factory literature.

Re: 1965 gmc 4000
Interesting truck.
I won't be able to help much with the axels and wheels, other than mentioning that the "7.20" on the tag should be the gear ratio. Bill

If no one answers in time, you might want to check with the boys over at Stovebolt.com too (at the Big Bolts Forum).
They are pretty knowledge-able with stuff like that. Bill

Re: 1965 gmc 4000
it is not a factory 4 x 4. factory only made them up to 3/4t. there are 2 options here. 1 is that it is a Napco 4 x 4 setup. there should be a plate some where on the truck that says Napco. 2 the other scenario is that an individual built it that way.
do you have registration for it. f it was properly done it should be stated on the registration. back yard, I doubt it will be on the registration ron |

Re: 1965 gmc 4000
it more than likely is a napco then. get your MVO to run the ser# to get the last registered owner and see if you can get them to sign it over to you. if the PO had it reg and lost it in afire then I wouldn't foresee any problems

Re: 1965 gmc 4000
It's a factory truck, model KV4000. Standard engine 305, optional 351. Standard FD070 front axle, if I remember correctly. H0150 rear axle standard, three different rear axles optional. SM 420 trans standard, SM465 and maybe two others optional. I have the full factory maintenance and service manual for it, NO ITS NOT FOR SALE.
If you'd like to part with the truck let me know! Best regards, T Herder |

Re: 1965 gmc 4000
Looks cool to me either way. Love seeing the big bolts with conventional beds. Looks badass.

Must... Have... More... Pictures...
You can't just post the one main picture of that beauty! I'm pretty sure that's against the rules around here! LOL |

Re: 1965 gmc 4000
I don't know where you can get a manual, I've had this one forever. I've attached a file to help you identify your axles. If it helps the manuals name is "GMC Maintenance Manual Models 1000-5000, GMC Truck & Coach Division X-6523, published August 17, 1964 General Motors Corp."
