Is the Price to High for a Bed?
I found this on CL. Is the asking price to high for a full bed? My bed is pretty rusted out and sides have some dents. So been looking around for a replacement.

Re: Is the Price to High for a Bed?
it depends on whether you want it very bad or not. It looks to be a clean floor in it.

Re: Is the Price to High for a Bed?
I paid 250 for Mine, its rust free and it was sand blasted and in primer. it even came with free surface rust from sitting around. But it has a wood floor, and didn't come with a tail gate 1500 seems steep to me that's more then i paid for my whole truck lol. Like the other guy said I guess it boils down to how bad you want it.

Yes,it's worth it. It's in line for good straight rust free sheet metal in PA. Try offering $1,200,but if they don't budge give up the money. It's like this, where are you going to find another and try pricing repro sheet metal.

Re: Is the Price to High for a Bed?
If it is truly rust and dent free and straight it is probably priced okay. Not too many in our northeast regions that are any good. If you get one from the southwest it is going to cost you several hundred dollars to get it shipped. I agree with Tim - make him an offer - cash talks right now in this economy. Take along a rubber covered magnet, a way of getting it home, and a wad of cash.

Re: Is the Price to High for a Bed?
A repo will run around $3000 complete and usually has to be put together.Might even be a little higher with a repo floor. That's a price I heard about 4 years ago so it may be a litte off,and doen't include shipping. If this one is good enough that you'll have less in it then I would say it's a decent price.Other areas of the country will have just as good for less but shipping will probably make it a wash.

Re: Is the Price to High for a Bed?
Oops...
That looks really nice. Bonus IMO, no trim holes either. Agreed, make offer, look it over good. Don't find them that nice very often. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Is the Price to High for a Bed?
Seems a bit high coming from a So.Cal. perspective, I would like to be able to get half that for a long bed out here.

Re: Is the Price to High for a Bed?
It all depends on location. I sold one with a good wood floor and no tailgate about 4 yrs ago. For $2200. I would check out a few other ads in your area and see what people are charging and what condition they are in. That would help you decide whether or not the pricing is in the right ballpark.

Re: Is the Price to High for a Bed?
It's all worth what someone is willing to pay. Is your truck already black? That would be icing on the cake for sure! Make him an offer, it's local and you can actually go see and touch it. If it seems not as descibed when you get there then walk away.

Re: Is the Price to High for a Bed?
It is tough to find original beds in that condition but the price seems high for a long bed box.
I thought about buying this one to use the bed for one of my projects. A little far away for you but the price is right and you could sell off many of the other parts to recover some of your investment. http://spokane.craigslist.org/pts/3245979625.html

Re: Is the Price to High for a Bed?
The cost of shipping new bed parts or a good used bed will bring the price up to this high. And,you can add in the risk of damage in transit as well as take away the advantage of looking it over before buying it. You'd also have to find someone selling a bed who is willing to put all the time, effort, and expense of crating, loading, and hauling that huge item to a shipping depot vs having a local buyer roll up,hand over cash, and haul it away. I think the price would go up for spending pretty much a day on that,as well as cost of lumber and fuel.
Also, when buying body parts, you have to consider the cost of body work, whether you pay to have it done or the time you'll have in it. After that, figure you have a repaired piece, not a nice original. Guys buy bottom dollar trucks out west, part them out, haul them back east and sell beds, doors, cabs, fenders, hoods, and tailgates for enough money to justify all the effort and expense. The whole "A bed sells for xxx in my western state" does not apply here.
