47-54 questions??
Ok guys got a couple questions about 47-54 3100 Chevy trucks. First:What was the first year for vent windows? Next:What year did they move the gas tank from under the bed to behind the seat? And last: Was heat an option? (I've seen with and without.) I'm trying to start a 47-54 project and I know what I like and dislike on these trucks, this will help me narrow down the search. Even though I can't decide if I like a 3 or 5 window cab,I think I'm leaning more towards the 3.
One more think, does anyone know of a reference book on these trucks, kind of like a buyers guide that shows the different models and options and the changes they made year to year? Posted via Mobile Device |

Vent windows 51
Gas tank 49 Heat an option: yes on AD trucks and most vehicles of that era except the luxury cars. Good luck on your hunt. Here are a couple of links with AD truck info http://www.adchevy.com/info/yeartoyearchanges/ http://www.pickuptrucks.com/html/his..._segment5.html |

Re: 47-54 questions??
Perfect! That's exactly what I was looking for. Answered another question that I had but forgot, about door handles. Thanks for the info.

Re: 47-54 questions??
Get a parts catalog from classic parts, in the front of the book it lists the changes. The catalog is free if it matters.

Re: 47-54 questions??
There are other details too such as the stamped designs on the firewalls that are intended to add strength to the firewalls just as using a bead roller on sheet metal does.

Re: 47-54 questions??
Another thing I noticed about my Panel is that the holes in the hood side of the hinges are just a touch smaller that the newer ones. I had to buy some replacement ones last year and had to drill out the holes to get them to go in. This only applied to the bigger holes on both sides and not the smaller one on the separate hinge, it was the same size as the newer ones.
