What paint is safest/best for repainting a plastic grill?

I have read where some have used Duplicolor FM149 which I think is Argent silver, on their plastic grills. Was wondering which is safest to use on the plastic, cause I just picked up a perfect 74 grill for my truck and it is so very straight with no defects just needs repainting and I dont want to use a paint that will mess up the plastic. Dont know if engine paints are good for plastics. Also, is thr Dupli color Argent Silver a Chevy/Gm or other? I thought I seen where it was like a Chrysler color or other, not Chevy, but I have read where guys say thats its the color they use on their Rallys and grills. Thanks..

All paints should be safe to paint plastic. The rattle can will not hold up like the 2 component(paint+ hardner)paints. The 2 component you have to use a good respirator and spray gun.

I used dupli-color rattle can. It is actually a honda colour: Billet Silver Metallic. Followed by their clear.

Nerphin, Wow that looks real good. Where did you get your emblem? It is the type that bolts in from the back correct? I have a worn out label on mine which I want to replace with a bolt in type like yours. Where did you get it and how much if you dont mind me asking? Where can I get the 350 emblem, I dont see any online. Did you use a primer before hand? Here's the grill I picked up below.

There are no emblems for the 73-74 currently in production. If you try to use the bolt on from the later grills pictured above it won't look right because they are a different size than the 73-4 ones. I don't know of anyone that reproduces the 454 or 350 grill emblems either.

I went to LMC'S site and the emblem like the one on nerphin's truck is for years different than my 74. Will it still fit? I wish they made bolt on opnes for the 74's.

No they will not, different sizes. There is one other option though. Part #s 672810 and 715626 are bolt on blue bowties that were made for the P chassis and are the same size as the bowtie shape on the grill. Those are probably rare though. Other than that would be making your own emblem out of aluminum or something else.

Here is a picture of the bowties I was talking about and here is a link to another thread where I got that stuff from. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=439104

Re: What paint is safest/best for repainting a plastic grill?

Ok Thanks KQQL. Will post some pics whenever i get it all done up. Man I called Duplicolor cause I cant find the argent silver fm149 and lady says that they dont have any name or number like that! Orielys told me they combined with another company and I think thats why, they changed their code numbers. Cause when i called duplicolor, the recording said"Duplicolor/VHT" so maybe they combined now?
