Need Your Help? 69or72

I'm thinking about changing my frontend from a 1969 to a 1972. Thinking about ditching my painted bumpers for chrome bumpers and a new chrome inner and outer 1972 grille. I need help making this decision? By the way that is the factory paint, faded and all. lol

First off, I have a '69, so I'm a little biased.. I do dig the white bumpers on your truck, they go with the top!

As for the '72 frontend, they look a little bland to me with that big eggcrate grille (flame away 71/72 lovers!!) I don't know if you where planning with the original grille insert or billet, but this is jmho. The billet would look a little blingy against your original paint, but would match those sweet wheels you're running.

Guess I have considered the 71/72 because of the "new" chrome inner and outer grille options. NO POLISHING. I don't know what it is I just like the 71/72 look. The current 2013 poll winner has really sold me on that grille also. You can't tell me that truck isn't bada$#?

But on the other hand I hate to make my truck a "hybrid".

I agree, that's a beautiful truck, but it doesn't make me want to run out and swap my frontend over. If I had your truck, I'd put a new '69 inner & outer grille, a set of bumpers and be done with it. Some 'smoothie' chrome bumpers with no bolts showing would look really cool...

Thanks for the advice. Where do you get the smoothie bumpers from?

Re: Need Your Help? 69or72

member 'Top Banana' had some for sale. I was gonna use them, but I'm going with front & rear roll pans instead of bumpers. Tim Christian has some on his GMC stepside and it looks KILLER!

Yep, do this. I replaced my white front bumper with a chrome one a long time ago and I think it's a great move. BTW my '72 is the same color as your '69. I'd also keep it a '69 if that were my truck.

Re: Need Your Help? 69or72

concur - keep it 69 (and I'm a 72 fan personally). Chrome bumpers and detail the grille you have - maybe touch up the missing black on the outer grille shell around the headlights and go from there (it may not be missing, can't tell for sure in the pic, but looks like it's faded off a bit). Buckets themselves are already black (yay!) but I'm talking about the outer grille shell area immediately outside the stainless ring around the headlights before you get to the outer perimeter.

Gorgeous truck - and have you seen my WTB original med olive 69-72 fender ad???
I'm just sayin...

Agreed with the chrome bumpers. One of the things on the list for my 69. Keep the 69 grill IMO.

Boy, I have mixed emotions here, and I am one of the biggesssssssst egg crate fans here, I have changed out 99% of every 69/70 grill to a 71/72 egg crate I have ever owned, but that truck looks so right on the way it is, I think just changing to the chrome bumper is the ticket! Oh, what the hell change the grill too!

Either way I'm gonna have to buy a new grille. My grille has a tear on one corner of the grille. $800 for a grille plus chrome. wow

Thanks for all the complements guys. Means a lot coming from some of the baddest truck owners on here. Anything you guys would change about my truck, I have a 1" block for the back. Think I need to install it? Not sure.

I'm surprised no one has said something like, "If you do change the front end I would be interested in your fenders" or something like that. That being said I'm interested in those headlight bezels... You have a great looking truck there, no matter what you do it looks good, even right now.

I thought those fenders will work for either grill?

I love how your truck looks! If it were mine I'd leave the grill, get the chrome bumpers, and swap out the square mirrors for the round style ones.

I say if it ain't broke don't fix it. I have a 70 longhorn that I swapped to 71/72 grill and bumper but that is only because it jad been wrecked and I had the parts. I prefer the 71/72 look but if it had been useable as is I would have left it.

Chrome front bumper and chrome mirrors, I like the stance it has I would not lower it any more.
I know LMC has 2 grill choices and one of them I think is under $400.
