Where do you mount the spare tire carrier?

I have a 68 swb fleet that didn't come with a spare or spare tire carrier. I recently got one but which holes do you hang it from under the frame? Pics would be great. Thank you.

My mom always had the best advice. It was just a tad late. After a fall that involved blood, she'd say....."Careful!"

Re: Where do you mount the spare tire carrier?

The left frame rail has a hole in the center of the rail directly behind the panhard bar mount. The bolt goes through it and has a upper and lower nut. The upper and lower nut allows adjustment for wheel thickness. The other side has a hole in the right rail near the back at about the front bolt hole on the right rear bumper bracket. This is the long bolt that is threaded near the end. The bed may have to be lifted to get it in due to the fact that it is put in from the top.I have cheated and slightly bent the bolt to allow it to feed through the hole without removing the bed. After it is in you can bend it back straight.

You can always get the stock bracket to mount it in the bed in front of the wheel wells .It can go on either side. They look ok on some trucks and you can put a stock hubcap on after it is bolted in. Or option 2 mount it lying down with a cover on it.

I have an ECE 4/6 drop on my truck and have my spare tire back there no problems. It will be coming off though when I put a gas tank back there.

Here are pictures of the tire rack. I have a hitch so the right side has a home made bracket. It would normally be the hole in the rear of the frame rail on a short bed.
