Isn't the rear view mirror on a '69 supposed to attach to the roof?
I have a '69, but the mirror is attached to the windshield. I looked at the brothers catalog, and they show that on a '69, it is supposed to be attached to the roof, with a bracket that hangs down. I'm confused though, because my roof in the middle between the sun visors doesn't have any holes in it where the original would have mounted.
Is there something I'm missing? Posted via Mobile Device |

Mine is not mounted on the roof either, mine has the 4wd T case shift pattern sticker where the mirror would mount.

Re: Isn't the rear view mirror on a '69 supposed to attach to the roof?
Just a guess here....I wonder if the truck could be ordered with no mirror, so the holes were never drilled(i.e. for a truck that carried a camper). And then someone stuck a mirror on the windshield some time later...?

Re: Isn't the rear view mirror on a '69 supposed to attach to the roof?
I believe the rear view was an option through 69. They were roof mounted until 71 and on the windshield after that.

That sounds logical. All mirrors were headliner mounted (roof) until 72.

Re: Isn't the rear view mirror on a '69 supposed to attach to the roof?
I don't believe a rear view mirror was optional. The day/night one was an option at some point. Can't explain the trucks that don't have em, but - pretty sure it was mando well before 69. I'd be amazed if it wasn't. Seems it would take a special order to NOT have one - the camper case, that's a good point.

The mirror in my 69 is attached to the headliner, but I know nothing about it being an option.

Re: Isn't the rear view mirror on a '69 supposed to attach to the roof?
I don't recall ever seeing a truck without mirrr mount provision. Some may not have had a mirror but the spot to mount was always there,at least if I happened to notice.

Re: Isn't the rear view mirror on a '69 supposed to attach to the roof?
My 67 truck has the holes for the passenger side sunvisor and the center mirror "drilled out", as in, definitely not factory drilled. The drivers side has nice clean holes, the PS and mirror holes look like crap.

Re: Isn't the rear view mirror on a '69 supposed to attach to the roof?
My '69 GMC 2500 Custom Camper does not have the mirror installed nor does it have any holes to mount one either. However, my '69 C10 does have one installed with the bracket attached to the sheet metal (headliner) area. I seem to remember a conversation on this site a while back (maybe one of our long time board members can remember it) where the mirror was discovered to be an option due to our trucks being used for slide in campers.

Re: Isn't the rear view mirror on a '69 supposed to attach to the roof?
Here's a link to a thread just started on a different subject. However, note that the SPID lists "non-glare mirror" as an option. I believe that'd be the interior mirror.

Re: Isn't the rear view mirror on a '69 supposed to attach to the roof?
My green '68 never had a mirror originally. I have also heard it was an option, and due to different suppliers around the Country, they all could be a little different. This truck also had a camper, so maybe that's why the O.O. never had one installed. I just went ahead and found a junk yard glue-on and had the guy glue it on when he changed out my windshield. I hate drilling new holes, even if they are where they're supposed to be.

Re: Isn't the rear view mirror on a '69 supposed to attach to the roof?
If I was given a choice I would want the windshield mounted mirror. My roof mounted mirror mkes a huge blind spot right in the middle of my windshield. I've pulled out right in front of a few cars I didn't see.

Re: Isn't the rear view mirror on a '69 supposed to attach to the roof?
IIRC the RPO DG5 optioned trucks I have encountered and several Longhorns did not have an inside rear view mirror. As they would have been C-K20s or C30s this matrix seems correct. The literature indicates standard equipment (04 & 34) as follows.
67 LH outside and inside 10" 68 LH & RH outside only 69 LH & RH outside, inside on C-K10 only 70 LH & RH outside, inside on C-K10 only 71 LH & RH outside, inside on C-K10 only 72 LH & RH outside and inside 10"

Re: Isn't the rear view mirror on a '69 supposed to attach to the roof?
I'm curious to see a picture of the roof where the missing holes are. I have the roof mount and mirror and was considering removing it.
