Rust free, all original 72 k5 spotted today
A friend of mine that owns a small mechanic shop a few blocks from my business is doing an engine rebuild on this 1972 k5. The blazer spent most of its life in Nevada until the owner moved to Oklahoma 5 or 6 years ago.
I looked it over very well and could not find one single speck of rust, original paint, pretty much all original besides the rally wheels and someone cut the dash for a stereo. My friend says he dont think the guy will sell it, but I would like to make him a fair offer just to see. what do you blazer experts think this is worth ?

That Blazer could probably bring a pretty significant amount. I'm guessing between $9-15K depending on condition and how it is mechanically. Of course, that is my opinion.

Re: Rust free, all original 72 k5 spotted today
I see one just like it everday and drive it
I agree with 99-LS1's estimate, and offering anything less might get laughed at. I could give you an idea of what I'd be willing to pay for a rust free truck, which is usually more than the average joe since I paint cars for a living, I can appreciate solid metal and I'll pay for it, and even travel long distances for it. Just something to be said about nice original sheet metal that isn't stamped in china. And I've seen some pretty crappy repairs come through here too. Buy rust free if you can. I can tell you I bought mine years back, always an arizona truck, not a speck of rust still with factory chalk markings on the underside and throughout the rest of the truck, original paint, original drivetrain and only 70k miles for about the lower price range of what 99-LS1 mentioned, but the interior needed completely gone through as the AZ desert had dried everything up that was vinyl or rubber, so that was another $2,000 and I did all the work. Eventually I pulled the entire drivetrain for an LS swap and overdrive, new diffs front and back etc...that was alot more coin as well just to get the truck where I wanted it. They are just never ending money pits no matter what you find Quite frankly I think the decent deals are gone on rust free stuff whether it's out here in the desert SW or back East, you are going to pay money if you want a solid vehicle. |

Re: Rust free, all original 72 k5 spotted today
Thanks for the replys..
I offered 10k for the blazer running and driving with the rebuilt 350. I have restored quite a few cars/trucks over the last 20 years, I do my own paint & body work, etc.. I am doing a complete on a 55 chevy sedan at this time. This blazer would not get restored...It would get cleaned up and a new set of all terrain tires. I would leave it original with the exception of the rally wheels thats already on it. This k5 has 90k actual miles, I could not bring myself to tear it apart. I guess I will wait and see if the owner wants my offer or not.

Re: Rust free, all original 72 k5 spotted today
Good luck!! I found my Jimmy in Calif and had it shipped to Minnesota (salt and winters = rust = no good). Mine has a small rust spot on the door, and a 1/4" hole on the floorboard by the dimmer switch - original paint, interior, ...... I did pay lower than the range mentioned, but had alot in shipping, interior needs work, and mechanically pretty good. I really hope you get it. And yes, mine is stored for the winter in order to preserve the condition.

$10k is a good deal. Hope he goes for it, but it sounds like a long shot. Long time owners like that rarely sell.

I have ALOT of projects...I really dont need this k5, just thought it was cool and wanted to throw an offer out to him. I dont want it bad enough to offer $15-20K ..I know how much $$ it takes to build these things...My 69 was rust free and a 1 owner..Not counting what I paid for it, I spent well over $20k on it, doing it all myself,I do my own paint & body work, etc.. I will keep you guys updated..

Re: Rust free, all original 72 k5 spotted today
The owner of the blazer came into my business this morning, apparently he is really wanting to buy a new zl-1 camaro and is seriously considering my offer.

Re: Rust free, all original 72 k5 spotted today
[QUOTE=99-LS1-SS;5701322]That's funny and a little bit ironic for me. I told my wife I wanted a ZL-1 Camaro or to rebuild the Blazer. She chose the Blazer. The other day we figured how much we had in the Blazer and I could have gotten ZR1 Corvette!

Re: Rust free, all original 72 k5 spotted today
hope you get it. It looks a lot like mine. Mine had 103K miles when I bought it 9 years ago (has 136K now). I paid just shy of $10K for it back then.
