Stumbled on to a little 71 Inflation Fighter last Thursday with 86k miles
Cool color and like the pinstripe. Rusty rockers and some dents and scrapes but all original paint and low (86k) miles. Says Inflation Fighter A as an option???? Guess it was name for a basic truck although it does have pin stripe, chrome bumper and hub caps but a 6 stick.
Saw it sitting on a side street in South St. Louis where I run calls all the time. Never know where they will show up. Wife says keep it b/c it isnt green...LOL! |

Re: Stumbled on to a little 71 Inflation Fighter last Thursday with 86k miles
BTW, what was an inflation fighter? I think it is option code YE7 or something like that.
I guess it was a spcl promo cheap truck with a few sparkles. Must have been like Highlander where there were multiple levels as this one said A Might have even been a localized thing??? This one was Flint built and sold new in Indiana. |

Hey thats really cool!
I see this ad is for a 200 h.p. V8 and mine is a 6, maybe that is why mine says inflation fighter A? Other than the engine it shows exactly whats on this one I have in the way of options. Thanks for sharing! Tim |

Re: Stumbled on to a little 71 Inflation Fighter last Thursday with 86k miles
Inflation Fighters are cool, but they weren't good fighters. Inflation won after all
What Tim listed above is what the package gave and this would be on a Custom...base model. That ad was just one dealer's promotion of these and how they ordered them

Re: Stumbled on to a little 71 Inflation Fighter last Thursday with 86k miles
Pretty cool indeed.
Well it'll be a fun little project to slick up, fix a few things and play with for a while and then post up for sale afterwards. I really like the no trim with the pinstripe look. I guess I am so used to seeing them with upper or lower or both moldings that it makes the body clean looking. Someone ask what I paid. The guy I bought it from was asking $2,200.00 and I bought it for about half of that. |

Re: Stumbled on to a little 71 Inflation Fighter last Thursday with 86k miles
So you got it for less than the advertised price listed above. That makes "you" an inflation fighter!

Re: Stumbled on to a little 71 Inflation Fighter last Thursday with 86k miles
Isnt that the truth Tim. I guess after all the $$$ I have donated to the economy with my hobbying on these things I was up for a break.
I would have been happy to pay MSRP if it looked like it did in June of 71 when it was brand new...... |

Nice original- even has the wheel covers! I'm a big fan of unrestored, complete, unmolested vehicles.

Yet another amazing find Tim...
I call foul play; you're cornering the market here in the Midwest.

Re: Stumbled on to a little 71 Inflation Fighter last Thursday with 86k miles
Nate,
I will get some pics up as soon as I get back in the first week of December. Bronze/Highlander/CustomCamper. There are your clues LOL! Meanwhile.... Here are a couple of pics of the 71 inflation fighter with a coat of Meguires on it. How about the upper part of the front bad panel??? Never seen that before. I love the survivors! |

Re: Stumbled on to a little 71 Inflation Fighter last Thursday with 86k miles
Meguiar's can do a bit of a miracle with beat-up paint. I resurrected the finish one of my Benz diesels with it, but totalled it a couple years later. Looked darned good, heading to the 'yard, though!
That truck looks almost set-and-forget! Well, it could use a little massaging- don't they all. Posted via Mobile Device |
