Re: 1 of 3 68 crew cab ?
wekk if you look closely it is an extended cab not a crew cab there is no drip rail for the back door area and the rear windows are tinted heavily which is ok but makes it look funny or different

Re: 1 of 3 68 crew cab ?
I saw this one recently - I think maybe eBay, but I'm not sure. I remember the owner said it was one of three factory extended cabs, but I don't think it was a factory build. There's just no profit in the factory building a small number of vehicles that require that much custom fabrication. It was likely built by an aftermarket coach builder.

Re: 1 of 3 68 crew cab ?
It is aftermarket dealer.
I have seen one before....at least ONE board member here has one. Trying to remember who. But really to answer the whole question....YES it is considered factory as it was built by a contractor for the factory.

Contracted vehicles by coachbuilders, whether they are crew cabs, extended cabs, customized vans, limousines, hearses or armored cars are not considered "factory" - as indicated in your first sentence. "Factory" connotes how the vehicle appeared when it was shipped from the GM assembly plant. GM provides a stripped down or upfitter ready vehicle in those cases. GM is responsible for warranty on the base vehicle and the coachbuilder is responsible for warranty on any items they create or install. K

Re: 1 of 3 68 crew cab ?
Agree, there is a huge difference between "factory built" and "as delivered" by the dealer. If it was through shipped to an upfitter for modification that does not make it "factory" be it a crew cab or 4x4 conversion. If changes were done by the dealer or accessories were added before delivery then it is "as delivered". These changes were often warrantied and would include things like A/C or other approved accessories. Being approved does not make them "factory" installed. Non-approved accessories like maybe a snow plow if it was installed prior to delivery would be "as delivered". If it is not a dealer documented change then it is at best period correct.

Re: 1 of 3 68 crew cab ?
Built by a company named Pacific I believe....anyway there is no way of knowing how many were built in any specific year...once these companies closed there records were gone as well.

Probably looked a lot closer to this than it does now with its upgrade.

Re: 1 of 3 68 crew cab ?
Well,it sure is a looooong truck!
Not a '68,not factory, and not 1 of 3 (or maybe I've seen all 3). That's always a good start to an honest sale. GM sold accessories. They had brochures at the dealerships. You could purchase a truck and request accessories to be installed for delivery. They are GM accessories available through GM parts depts. but not considered factory parts. There was also the Silver Book, which was full of upfit equipment, mostly for commercial applications but also recreational. You could purchase a truck with any of this equipment installed when delivered. This equipment is made by companies who also offered their products for other makes and through independent dealers. None of this is considered GM,yet a truck could be delivered with them installed.

Re: 1 of 3 68 crew cab ?
someone here has the twin to it....but it is orange. pretty sure it was in a thread about the 4 door "factory" crew cab truck for sale in new england. that one was a Scott dealership conversion. the extended cabs, with that rectangular window were made in Washington state? very cool....wish it was for sale in detroit, i would go kick the tires!
