Locking Gas Cap ?
Well the only key I did not get with my new 71 GMC I bought last week was the locking gas cap ? I did get a Key marked gas but it will not turn at all ? I gave it a shot of PB Blaster but nothing, will not turn at all ? Any thoughts other than cutting it off ?.....Thanks for looking !

Re: Locking Gas Cap ?
Not worth paying a locksmith unless he's a friend who will work for free (or beer). Or try this -- if you're on good terms with an auto parts store employee, maybe they'll try some keys from similar locks. One more thought.... I once heard the small numbers on the locking cap are coded to the key. Might help you get the right key the first time. Good luck.

You need to reach out to LockDoc on the board.

Re: Locking Gas Cap ?
Drill it out. A punch and a drill wil render it useless.

Re: Locking Gas Cap ?
I was going to drill it but was concerned about filings going into the tank, I also was thinking about the little claws that lock the cap on , will they release when you drill the lock ?

Re: Locking Gas Cap ?
If you're worried about fillings then put some grease on the bit. Grease will catch them. You don't need to drill all the way thru though.
When you get the lock cylinder out there's a slot or tang inside that activates the claws. Or you could drive a screwdriver into it. |

Re: Locking Gas Cap ?
Take a prybar and piece of 2x4 and pry it off, Spin the cap until its at it's most loosest spot, the locking part is only a third notch,it should only rip up one area of filler neck that you can easily bend back to shape with some pliers
