Opinions on drop

Well next week I'm ordering my rebuild and drop parts for my 70 short bed. The four six drop is what I'm leaning to from early classic. Comes with six inch drop rear spring, and 2.5 spindle and 1.5 coil in the front. If anyone has pics of 4-6 dropped trucks I would love to see them. If I go lower, is notching the frame required?

Greetings from a fellow Okie!

Yes, frame mods will be necessary if you go lower, or if you haul anything. Be sure to start a build thread.

I'm going with the same. There is a thread for static dropped trucks with a ton of pics in it, search and you will find it.

That is a beautiful truck. Do you know what wheels those are? I'm staying with 6 lug and plan on running steelies and caps but would like some 20's to put on as well.

They are Billet Specialties Soft Lip Vintecs.
They're also custom ordered 6-lug.

Re: Opinions on drop

Thanks everyone. After looking at the thread Zoomin suggested I believe I'm going to use a 4.5-6 drop. I really just don't think I can cut into a short frame for the notch. It's funny how the larger diameter wheels lend themselves so well to these trucks. I like my rallies but gotta say the larger wheels seem to make the trucks look lower and match the lean look of the truck.

Re: Opinions on drop

Someone correct me but you WILL have to notch the frame for a 5" or more drop in the rear.

Every truck I've ever built has had ECE 6 inch rear drop and I never felt the need to notch any of them. I always cut the snubbers down real short or replace them with short aftermarket snubbers. Yes, if you haul heavy they can bottom out occasionally, but with the snubbers in there it's a non issue. Just a little bump every so often. Unloaded, you're golden at 6 inches.

Re: Opinions on drop

ECE has a replacement crossmember that they suggest using if you go 5 or more lower in the rear. It's what the trailing arms attach to. As a 2.5/4.0 owner, I gotta say that once you go low, you'll want it lower. It's an addiction.

4/6 ECE drop

It looks close like it needs a c-notch but I believe it will be ok.

Re: Opinions on drop

Once again thanks for the info. I'm new to the forum and I haven't figured out how to attach pics from a mobile device such as an I pad. But when I figure it out or get to a desktop, I will upload what I have. As for the six inch drop in the rear, I have done it before and not notched the frame. Aside from an unexpected speed bump (which will knock you through your windshield), the drop works under normal driving conditions.
