Brake Pedal Question : 54 Chevy Pickup
I've got a 54 Chevy pickup with rear manual drum brakes (fronts are disc) ... if I grab the brake pedal on my truck with my hand and wiggle it left and right it rattles against the hole in the floorboard ... it also has a wear spot on the top side of the shaft from rubbing on the hole in the floor board and sometimes hangs up at that spot.
Is there a fix for this? RB's Auto sells a "Bumper Brake Pedal Shank" that "rides under the floor board" -- is this what I need? Thanks. |

I bet the that rod (Bumper Brake Pedal Shank) is what the brake pedal is attached to.. When you get under your truck you'll see another rod (flat stock) that pivots on a round slug that then goes to your master cylinder. Its most likely worn at the rod (flat stock) where it pivots on the round slug. That rod has a brass bushing in it (I think) & thats worn...been forever since I had one apart...joe

Thanks, Joe
My pedal talks too much, so maybe this will help -- I sure hope so! I'm gonna call RB's today and ask a few questions ... it's only like $15, too. |

Update : The brake pedal shaft bushings ae what needs to be replaced -- you nailed it TooMany2Count -- and I ordered them today from Chevy Duty. They should also firm up the whole deal so that the brake pedal arm no longer rubs on the floorpan hole, etc.
