Debated this myself for months now as I am building truck.. Had them on before but now I will delete them as well as the front hood trim. Mine was a 72LWB, now it is a 68 SWB

Re: tail light trim or not
depends on the look you are going for. If you want chrome, then add the trim. Depends on the rest of the truck.

Re: tail light trim or not
Even if you decide not to run an upper or lower body side molding the tailgate and light trim could stand alone, a standard aka sport bumper would help. Think of it balancing the front grill.
But then plain has its attraction as well.

Re: tail light trim or not
Currently I have all the trim off of my GMC Longhorn. I am leaning more toward leaving it off, but haven't officially made up my mind yet. The reason I am considering this is the current attachments to reattach them in my opinion is sub par. I used the metal and plastic 3M ones on the 1 ton and they are pealing apart. The metal is doing good.

Here's a picture off E-bay of a truck with no side trim, just rear trim. It looks good in my opinion. I like Tim's analogy about balance. ![]()

Re: tail light trim or not
my vote is for chrome on the tail gate..and the rear lights..just looks good..but i seen nice trucks without it also.
just remember any thing chrome on your truck will make it run 10 mph faster... |

Re: tail light trim or not
I believe MuscleRodz had some tail light lenses with billet trim that might offset the lack of trim. I'm also a fan of tunneling the taillights, but haven't ever seen any of these trucks with stock-type tunneled units. These aren't cheap, but they sure are pretty....

Re: tail light trim or not
That was for the digitalis version. They have a regular set for $225 that's more palatable.

I've always like the trim, so that's where my vote goes.

Re: tail light trim or not
What do you guys think about a tailgate with the woodgrain band and tail light trim but without side trim? I have an original tailgate that is in perfect condition but it has the woodgrain band and stainless trim. If I use it I don't want to have to fill the screw holes so I would use it with the trim, but I am not planning on running side trim. Opinions?

Re: tail light trim or not
I've been back and forth on this one almost every way. I think I've finally settled on this.
Agreed on the "balance" issue. Also, I considered balance of the real window trim. For me, the lower line was a little too much with a roll pan. For the lateral design, looking at the truck directly from the rear, the line created by the bottom of the tail gate works for me. Then again, I'm a "minimalist". ![]() Boy, that garage was a mess.....

Re: tail light trim or not
Yeah. That's what I did on my last truck. Good thing we have these kind of choices to make instead of something more, shall we say, *life threatening*? Makes me feel thankful.
