swaybar
Hey fellas, I was wondering how big is the biggest sway bar that was offered for our trucks and what did it come on? 2 wheel drive.

Re: swaybar
I had a HD C20 with the 1 1/4 swaybar, so it was offered on 3/4 tons also.

Re: swaybar
Tell me..Is the sway bar worth getting? My truck doesn't have one.
Is it worth it to head to the boneyard and get one? |

Re: swaybar
I have a 1 1/16th on my truck but I've heard a lot of good about them so I went ahead and got one off a 1 ton at the junkyard.

Re: swaybar
YES! If you have a 1 1/16 and step up to the larger bar you will notice a little difference. If you have no bar at all and add either one you will notice a LOT of difference.

Re: swaybar
Thanks guys I wasn't sure what the factory offered as I have aftermarket bars on my truck. Just was curious that's all, I like to learn.

Re: swaybar
I saw the cheap digital dial calipers at Harbor Freight the other day ($8) and couldn't remember why I wanted one, now I do. I need it to get the right new bushings.

Re: swaybar
I got the same calipers a couple years ago. I probably use them twice a month or so - often to get the exact diameter for a nut or bolt. They seem to be accurate, until the battery starts to die. Just remember to close the jaws and push the zero button every time you use them. I seem to inadvertently touch the zero button when I am done using it and that resets the zero mark incorrectly.

Re: swaybar
Does it handle different or ride different??
I noticed that it handles much better after just being lowered. |

Re: swaybar
My camper special 83 C20 has a stock front sway bar - I think it was standard on all camper specials, but I don't know the diameter. I got new bushings from the local parts shop (a Car Quest store, I think) and they were light blue in color. I sanded down the swaybar and painted it black when I had it out of the truck. x2 on night and day difference on handling and cornering - I mean, it is still a big 'ol truck and drives like one, but tighter steering and ride was not affected, except maybe a slightly better ride - less floaty on turns.

Re: swaybar
im thinking about using all urethane and putting rubber pads with lock nuts under the outer bushing so it can pivit. that way it kills the rubber pad and not the bushings
