Stick or Auto What transmission are you running?

This question is part of gathering info for the Squarebody book. I'm guessing the bulk of us with 1/2-tons are running an automatic?

I went from a TH350 to a Gearstar 4L60E in my '79

I have a Tremec TKO500 in my '66 C10 I'm thinking about stuffing it in one of my Squares... not sure. Then dump a TH350 in the '66.

What transmission are you running and is there another transmission that you'd prefer to have in your truck?

Thanks a lot!

Re: Stick or Auto What transmission are you running?

Currently have SM465 in the 83 C20 - had 350 in a 76 C20 and a TH400 in a 73 C20. I would prefer a 700R4 but the best transmission/engine combo I had was in that 73 C20- TH400/454 - very fast and lots of pulling power - better than my old Corvette. I would never get a 350 trans.

MY6 4 speed manual; floor shift. It's a MOPAR A833 trans, with 3rd gear as 1:1 and 4th gear as overdrive.

Factory Hurst shifter....

Re: Stick or Auto What transmission are you running?

Depends on the vehicle for me, I keep the sticks for the muscle cars. For my 79 that I tow with, it's a bulletproof 400 turbo and gear vendor unit. For my 72 daily driver it's a 4L60E.

Re: Stick or Auto What transmission are you running?

Got a bit of everything here,Turbo 400,SM465 & A833. I like the sticks better for most stuff, but the auto is nice in the mud, won't spin as easy.Just got the 833 going first part of Oct. I really like that tranny...

Currently SM465. I'd like to swap over to a nv4500 to get overdrive.

Re: Stick or Auto What transmission are you running?

Currently sm465 in one ton dually crew 2wd, I have a nv4500 thats going in after another "project" is wrapped up. Gives me better ratios for city driving, direct for pulling, and overdrive for criuse missile highway driving, I hope it goes in easy, we will see. Trev.
