Fuel gauge problems
My fuel gauge was working fine and then it started going up way above full and when you shut the motor it settles about the 1/8th of a tank mark. if any one has seen this before I would sure appreciate some help thank you, s wells

Have you checked the sending unit for continuity? How about the ground wire?

Suddenly pegging the gauge at 3:00 is usually the frame to sender ring ground at the tank.
It could be a break in the sender wire too. Early dual tanks could have a bad or unplugged dash switch.

Hmm,must check my fuel gauge also,shows about 1/4 with full tank.

If it's moving from E to 1/4 then the gauge or the calibration resistor are usually bad. If it's not moving then check the power and ground connections to the cluster plug, the plastic printed circuit, and the connection from the printed circuit to the spring clips. I keep intending to do a writeup on testing the gauges. Maybe over my Christmas holiday... Youtube sounds easier.

Have replaced the fuel gauge now and it looks better

my ground is OK at the tank but the power wire is 5 different wires.I patched it up for a temp fix but I am going to cut the bundles and run a new wire. just patching the power wire helped it reads correctly now
