Thumbs up Re: Look what came in the mail...

Very nice Randy!!! Ironic that you live in GT, and the middle 3 numbers are 783...

But given the fact you are OG GT, 825 might be more appropriate?!

Yeah, 825 would have been the $hit. Original plate number. Was first purchased from De Anza in Riverside.

Is De Anza still in business? I have a pair of license plate frames from De Anza that I have been running on my '36 Ford Coupe since the early 60's...

DeAnza is now called Singh Chevrolet. It is no longer in downtown Riverside. My great grandfather was a line mechanic at DeAnza many years ago.

Please tell me where you got those Randy. I know tvlicenseplates.com is no longer allowed to make the Cali plates.

Here I was all excited to get my "new" plates. I just noticed about an hour ago the number 1 is different on the two plates. I called the guy I got the plates from and sent him an email with pictures of the "new" plates and a picture of my original plate pointing out the difference between the font of the number 1 and the difference in the font of the plates from original in general. I think he will be refunding my money but now I need to come up with another solution to my plate problem. The name of the company is CRE8APL8.

Bummer!

So the one on the right is a restored original and the one on the left is a repop?

No, both are repops, made by the same company and came shipped together in the same package. They did however, come with a pair of *****en plastic frames all for the low, low price of $180 per plate. They were supposed to be exactly as original except stamped from aluminum. I'm going to get my money back or he is going to make it right.

I'm so depressed (boo-hoo).

Did I tell you guys it took 6 weeks to get them?

Re: Look what came in the mail...

That is a real shame. Your originals don't look that bad, talk to Rene (C/10 King) his wife does an awesome job of repainting them and very reasonable on the price.

Woah! How did you link a single post from a thread???

That plate looks great!

ItsRandy: Is it legal to run reman plates in Cali? I looked at that place when I was looking to run year of manufacture plates on my truck and mustang, and SC law specifically states no remanufactured plates, they have to be originals that "look presentable." I kept waiting out for good sets on ebay. I got one for each ride, I paid $55 for the 65 plates and I think I had to shell out $70 for the truck plates.

Hit the number on the upper right of your post (In this case #20) and it will open up a new window with just that post. Then simply cut/paste it.

No, it's not "legal", however, I own the plate number and have for the past 30 years or so. The plate is registered to my truck and I am not attempting anything nefarious or attempting to commit fraud. I am hoping no one will catch on or care if they do catch on.

In California the plates need to issued by the state and be "serviceable".

Not a problem, I completely understand! Just wasn't sure if it was something you could actually do in cali. I'm currently trying to get a title for my 67 firebird. My dad bought it in 86/87 in NY with no title, he never registered it, now I have the car here in SC and decided not to work on it until I can get it titled. I ran a search on it, the VIN is clean, and the door post and firewall VINs match with factory rosette rivets and decoding the VIN matches what the car is... Looking at a few options, they all suck. I'm just about willing to do "whatever I need to" to get it titled.

This is something to consider. My back plate is full of rust holes, I didn't think it could be restored.

Kinda' scary sending your licence plates to someone all the way across the country. You never know what they will do with them.

Re: Look what came in the mail...

hmm. learn something new every day (i.e. single post linky).

I found an original un-issued 71 Indiana Farm Truck plate for mine on ebay. Not sure I'll ever be able to use it, but that is home sweet home and it was a good buy - I hope to return there someday. The guy had a slew of them, all sequential on ebay a while back. If I ever end up back there I will try to find out how to run it - I saw some stuff on Indy's DMV site about running yom plates. Now THAT would be cool...

Ya know - if you ran those front and back, nobody would ever catch the difference (except maybe the police if you got pulled over). It is a shame. Rather than a refund, can't the guy just make you 1 more correct plate? Feel your frustration, don't blame you.
