Purpose of Mystery Factory Hole in Radiator Support?

Why is this factory hole with a nut welded to the backside on the radiator support?

It is only on the passenger side.

The attached picture is a 1972 Blazer from the Internet, but my 1972 GMC pickup has it and I'm trying to figure out why GM put it there.

It was an alternate radiator retainer location. IIRC it was used on I-6 trucks. This is a '67 V-6 (KM).

Small block V8's use the outter set of holes, as well as 6 cylinders with automatic transmissions or A/C. Pretty much all radiators with plastic fan shrouds.

Width of the radiator changes from a 4 core.I don't remember all the criteria, but I went to the other holes when I put the (way overkill) 4 core in my 68 with a 250.
