Protective bare metal.
I found a product that works well to keep your bare metal from rusting while waiting for paint. You spray a bit on and wipe it around with a microfiber rag. It's a bit pricey but it seems to work and is silicon free.

Re: Protective bare metal.
Even at that price it would save a lot of hassles with trying to keep a body from rusting while you finish the metal work on it. I have a Model A Ford body that will have to be dipped before I can get serious with the body work that will take several months with my schedule. My cab will probably need to be dipped or blasted before I finish it too but i may have a local guy sandblast it as he blasts the stuff he works on in his shop all the time.

Re: Protective bare metal.
i used picklex20 successfully for a couple of years on my truck
but as all projects go it eventually rusted and i had to re-sand blast it i've decided the best protection for bare metal is a quick epoxy primer job
