Cheapest way to lower my 49
Looking for the cheapest and easiest way to lower my truck. It's a 49 3100 sitting on a 55 chevy frame, straight axle with a 235 engine, 6 lug wheels, ect. Just want to drop it down as much as possible without the expense of swapping frames or bagging it. I looked at the sids drop spindles, but thought i'd ask you guys for any advice.
Thanks, Scott |

Re: Cheapest way to lower my 49
Well Sid drops the axle not the spindles. Quick and nasty and almost free is to remove some leaves from the front springs but then they keep sagging until you have no spring travel. The guys are getting tired of seeing the photo of my messed up front spring every time someone asks this question so I'll pass on showing it this time.
This is my 48 with three leaves removed from the front and 205-60-14 tires on the front. It rides terrible and doesn't handle worth squat setup like that too. I threw it back together to go to two car shows in 1989 and ended up driving it that way for a number of years until the 250 got so worn out that it wouldn't run.

It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around. Last edited by mr48chev; 12-30-2012 at 10:29 PM. |

Re: Cheapest way to lower my 49
If he has the Task Force frame under the truck rather than a first series 55 frame that will work.
Toolaidback it would help if there were some photos of your truck so guys could see what they are offering suggestions on. Especially the underside of it front and back and the stance it has now.

Re: Cheapest way to lower my 49
Ok 55 first series frame same as 54 so anything that will work on a 47/54 will work on it.
It all depends on how low you want to go. Lowering blocks in the rear will work ok. and what ever you want to do on the front be it removing leaves or dropped axle or a suspension swap.
