64-66 C10 windshield install help
I need some coaching on the string method. I have 3 or more people to help.
I do know that the "brow" of the cab will not allow me to set it in from the bottom first, so it look like I will have to hold it up at the top first then start pulling the string around holding pressure on the outside pushing in! Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 64-66 C10 windshield install help
Im no pro But when I did it I used a 1/4 rope and hot soapy water. I put the rope in the rubber channel all the way around until it stopped and joined in the middle btop of the INSIDE window. With your other two helping, slid the top of the rubber in and have them add preasure with their hand starting at the top and working your way pulling the rope so that the rubber will rap the metal.
Im not saying its the best way. it was my first time. but it worked ok...dont force the rubber with the rope...you can rip it..have a spray bottle of soapy water handy. Good luck

Re: 64-66 C10 windshield install help
The '64-'66 windshields, especially with the Custom Cab windshield chrome trim, are one of the hardest windshields to install. The brow on the top doesn't allow you start at the bottom and work your way up like you would normally on any other windshield. You have no room to work with on the top. I wonder how the guys on the assembly line did it when they were stamping out about a thousand of those trucks a day?
It's a tough install, I feel for you.

Re: 64-66 C10 windshield install help
Here is how I did mine ( custom trim ) laid the windshield flat on the channel , took a hook tool and started on the bottom and worked the the seal over the channel once the bottom was started that's when we pulled the rope/string to work the rest of it in it still took a lot of pushing and slapping with a open palm. There is a you tube video of a 67 windshield install that is really good on showing how to use a hook tool and how to get the seal started to use the pull rope.

Yeah I think this is the vid Dually is talking about. Very helpful info.
Might be worth investing in the gasket hook. |

Re: 64-66 C10 windshield install help
I'm tackling mine now... I think I'm like a quarter inch too far to the right - any thoughts on whether I can add more soap and water and a couple of suction cups from harbor freight and get this thing to center in the opening or should I work the seal back out and try again for the 3rd time - this thing has been a $#@$@

it's so close it's maddening... I'll give that a shot - hate the thought of yanking this thing back out.

Re: 64-66 C10 windshield install help
So picked up a couple of suction cups from harbor freight and an awl... worked the seal back out on the top and sides... used the suction cups and was able to bump in the quarter inch I needed... flipped the suction cups back to the inside and used the awl while pulling on the glass inward (pains of having all daughters) - and was able to finally get the windshield in - thanks for all the help guys.
