Need some disc rear end swap advice on a 2wd

Sent the blazer off to my fab guy today to get my air ride and a few things finished and noticed a nice puddle of gear oil on my garage floor when I pulled it out. Turns out I have a crack in one of the tubes where it meets the pumpkin on the rear diff.

I'm thinking it would be a good time to do a swap to a rear end with disc. Recently added a Blower onto my 396 and I could use some extra stopping power.

Anyone have any advice as to what may fit under the rear without having to shorten it? I was thinking possibly trailblazer SS or Impala SS may work but i havent successfully found any info on this.

I would say stay with drums on the rear and upgrade your fronts. Most of your stopping power will come from the front brakes. Either that or get a hydroboost setup. Check with CPP.

you can find the correct axle for it at a salvage yard to replace your bad one then buy the disk conversion kit.

You really have two problems here...

The leaking tube and wanting improved braking.

Do you have the stock 12-bolt rear end? Mine leaked at the tube/housing also...

Since you need to replace the axle due to the leak I would look for another 12-bolt from the same era truck. They do make disc brake kits for the 12 bolt in both 5x5.5 and 6x5.5 bolt patterns if you still wanted to change over. You'll need a new proportioning valve too. Might as well throw a Posi at it too if you're building up the axle.

That should increase stopping power some but as stated before improving the fronts, doing the 1-ton booster swap, or going hydro will be a bigger bang for you buck. Also you could swap over to braided lines if you're still running rubber. That could improve pedal feel and stopping some.

Alternatives to the 12-bolt? Ford 9" would likely be your next candidate - out of what? I have no idea.

Lots of options - just depends on what you want and what you want to spend.

Turns out after doing some digging that it wasn't a cracked tube at all , but a poor job sealing the diff cover from the guy who just did my new gears , All fixed up and Wilwood brakes on the way !!
