Question Cut coil spring's?

Is it possible to cut your own coil spring's, or is there machining that need's to be done during the process? Would they come out ok? I'm trying to drop the front about 2 inch's.

I cut about a 1/4th coil out of my front springs and it dropped maybe 1-1/2 inches. Didn't have that bad of effect on bouncyness

You would be safer to buy some drop coils. Cutting the springs is said to weaken the integrity of them. I have heard of them breaking on the highway and causing accidents

I did this 10 years ago, and had a rough, bouncy ride. That's because the spring is stiffer after you shorten it. You can probably control the bounce with better shocks, like Rancho 5000s. Another problem is the spring will no longer be flat where it sits in the seat. This could eventually lead to damaging the seat.

If you're going to all the trouble of removing and replacing the springs, you should spend the money on new springs from a company like Early Classic Enterprises, which is what I did. The ride height will be the same as cutting your springs, but the ride quality will be much better.
