Another Weather-Strip Thread
Hi All, I have been looking at different vendors and reading a bunch of threads to find the best products/vendors.
Question is...on the top of my doors (interior side obviously) I have a glue on style weather-strip gasket. This seems to seal against the cab seal...or real close to it. I do not see any vendors that offer this. Is this piece even needed/vital to sealing the truck? I've seen a few other trucks on here that have the same gasket installed. What are your thoughts? 1972 C10 Thanks, Jim

Re: Another Weather-Strip Thread
Trucks still in the shop....so no pics right now. My truck has 2 gasket seals.
1) goes around the cab opening. Door sill all the way back around to door sill. 1) goes around the top of the door, basically from door strike to top hinge....top half of door only. Just inside the top lip above window channel. I am probably doing a horrible job describing this.

Re: Another Weather-Strip Thread
GMC Pauls is supposed to have some nice weatherstrip from what I ve heard. Im going to be buying the press on door weatherstrip instead of the glue on.

Re: Another Weather-Strip Thread
I've never seen one with the half seal on the door (if I'm Understanding you correctly) only the one around door opening.

Re: Another Weather-Strip Thread
Someone probably put that there because the original stuff was wearing out. It doesn't belong there nor will you need it when you replace the door opening weatherstrip. We have the best too. WES

Re: Another Weather-Strip Thread
Truck is coming home tomorrow after 3 weeks in the hospital.
I will post a picture of what I am talking about, since I can't describe it well. I highly doubt it serves any purpose...just want confirmation.

Re: Another Weather-Strip Thread
You are talking about an upper door seal. It is attached on the door typically with 3M tape (but some attach with glue) and starts just above the door hinge goes along the top of the door. This was a secondary seal to the main door opening seal. It was meant to provide extra protection against the door leaking at the top. This seal is spacific to certain trucks and should not be added if your truck didn't originally come with it. The upper seal was common on the 73 & up trucks NOT the 67-72 trucks. Sounds like the previous owner put it on in error. You do NOT need this seal on your truck.

Re: Another Weather-Strip Thread
Thanks for your responses. I am taking the rest of it off and cleaning off the old glue (looks more like 30 year old epoxy) what a mess. Will get a new cab seal shortly.

Re: Another Weather-Strip Thread
Tip: be prepared to adjust your doors after installing your new seals. Over the years the doors get adjusted to make up for seal wear. It's rare to just slap a new set on and have your doors close/seal properly.

Re: Another Weather-Strip Thread
The only rubber I will use is from Steele Rubber Products, and is the only brand my glass man will use. I have tried the rest and nothing compares to Steele.

Re: Another Weather-Strip Thread
I am leaning towards GMCPaul for the "press on" gasket for the cab opening and Soff Seal for the windshield and rear window gasket.
