Son a of a Bit$h Can this be fixed (Radiator)
Decided to start my motor up today just to hear it run since i havent ran it in a few months. Well got it started but it scared the hell out of my 20 month old son (threw a fit cause i wouldnt let him out in the garage) so I cut it off and took him back in to mommy. Came back out to start it again and saw the fan leaving against the radiator. Some how the mounting plate which was pressed on the empeller of the pump cam off and my fan chewed up the radiator. I bought the water pump from Skip White its a reverse rotation pump. anyway Can the radiator be saved or am is this a 400 dollar lesson.

It doesn't look good. Is it leaking?

Re: Son a of a Bit$h Can this be fixed (Radiator)
Any radiator repair shop can repair your radiator. They are getting hard to find due to the fact that the newer aluminum and plastic radiators are throw away units. You should be able to find one in the Houston area.

Agreed... that can be fixed by a rad shop.
Maybe think twice about Skip White's China made stuff... Gary

Have you called them to see if they will cover the cost of the repair? I would try and see if they will.

Re: Son a of a Bit$h Can this be fixed (Radiator)
I'd raise a fuss, and at least see. I usually get results with the whole "I know this isn't you fault, personally, and I ain't mad at YOU, but your company sold me a bad product and I'm just a poor kid working on an old truck" line, lol.

Re: Son a of a Bit$h Can this be fixed (Radiator)
look at it this way thats not real bad it could've been MUCH worse.
I would think being in the climate of the south rad shops would be common they are pretty scarce around here I only know of one.

As long as it doesn't leak, you should be okay. There are a bunch of radiator shops around town.

Re: Son a of a Bit$h Can this be fixed (Radiator)
Just an update. I did contact Skip white and was told by the lady I spoke with that if that happened with an autozone part they would not replace my radiator therefor they would not either. As for the water pump it was in my garage boxed up for 6 months and I had no receipt and no records in my ebay account so they would not refund any money for that either. Whatever learned a hard lesson wont ever buy from them again.
An old friend of mine said he had a radiator guy that could fix it so I took it to him and got it fixed for 60.00 bucks even.

Re: Son a of a Bit$h Can this be fixed (Radiator)
Quote:
Autozone would absolutely take care of this if they could prove that a defective part they sold you caused this damage. It is called a parts/labor claim and is something that major auto parts suppliers know very well about. If I sent you a gauge cluster and one of the gauges did not work or one of the new bulbs did not light up and I said TFB, Brothers won't help you with this so why should I. It would never happen on my end. It is amazing to me how little it cost considering the BIG picture to keep your customers happy and coming back. So now it sounds like you are stuck with a bad water pump and radiator because of something that was not your fault to begin with. As far as a receipt, tell them Autozone keeps those records on file and all they need from you is a phone number for a proof of purchase. Even a little guy like me selling gauge clusters out of his living room knows who his customers are and have been. Good luck. Sorry about the rant. Tom

Re: Son a of a Bit$h Can this be fixed (Radiator)
Wow! I was just about to buy a 383 engine kit from them on ebay for a grand. Guess I'll just go and delete that!
Everyone here thanks you for this information so it wasn't a total loss. I just kept a grand in my pocket... How many others will you help out?

Re: Son a of a Bit$h Can this be fixed (Radiator)
that's terrible customer service. I agree with Tom's "rant". I would definitely eat the cost to at least replace the bad pump. it will cost way less than the money will lose once people find out how bad you service is

Re: Son a of a Bit$h Can this be fixed (Radiator)
I run a small business. If my product caused a problem like that (which it demonstrably did), I would come over and replace the pump AND the radiator AND offer a contrite apology.
FWIW... Im still in business after 40 years. |

Re: Son a of a Bit$h Can this be fixed (Radiator)
when i first got on ebays i saw alot of skip white stuff for real cheap an i thought dang i gotta start getting from them. but a lil' more thought into it and "its too good too be true" so i stayed away. glad i did.
a few years ago i saw the almost the same thing happen too a 67 camaro that was being pro streeted. the fell'a just got a ron davis rad exited the guy put it in and didnt wanna wait for the electric fans that "were on the way". fired up the car(big ole 496) backed it out while warming it up. winged the throttle a few too burp it. i was standing next too the pass door soaking up the rumble when it happened he winged it pretty good an the old clutch fan let go and the clutch and fan wobbled so bad that it punched a almost perfect hole through the new rad i watched it happen like slo mo. the kicker was is the next day the electric fans showed up. boy he ate that rad. an it took him 3 months too save up to get another rad. sorry for the story live an learn

I guess I can cross Skip White off of the list of companies that I will ever buy from.
