Re: LMC rocker panels

I have the LMC rockers and mine have the tooling marks on them too. These are made overseas as is most of the aftermarket replacement metal. What I've learned is the the place to get body repair panels made in USA and better quality is http://tabcobodyparts.com/ Their website shopping cart doesn't work right now. You'll have to call if you want to order something.

I will say besides the tooling marks, the LMC rockers I got fit great.

Re: LMC rocker panels

I got mine from SOKY Classics, and they fit pretty well and don't have tooling marks as you describe, but they are made in Taiwan (if that matters to you). For all I know they could be from the same supplier and I just got lucky.

I have also had good luck with sheetmetal from Classic Parts of America.

Re: LMC rocker panels

Gary,
In direct answer to your question, Yes the best fitting aftermarket rocker panels that are available do have tooling marks on the top.

I will try to explain myself,
There are more than one manufacturer of our replacement parts, some good and some just awful, I won't point a finger at any particular vendor as I have received both good ones and crappy ones from the same vendor.

I do know that a lot of vendors get their parts from the same manufacturer and just add their labeling.

Over the years of doing metal work and patch panels on many vehicles I have found there is one manufacturers parts I will literally toss in the "scrap heap" (see picture for label). Unfortunately if you need a front floor pan for one of our trucks they are the only option that I know of at this time.
Tabco has been good with their "USA" made parts that I have used, One good thing about their parts is they use "Aluminum killed steel" which is way more malleable and closer to OEM (more workable in shrinking and stretching) than the imported parts which are "HSS" (high strength steel) this is a harder metal, more brittle and difficult to work (stretch and shrink).

Re: LMC rocker panels

The L cab corner I bought from them took alot of work to make it fit. I bought the R side and both rockers 12 years ago at a swap meet and it fit almost like oe, rockers aren't installed yet, and unsure of the brand. I had bought one from keystone and it had the same manufacturer sticker as the LMC one.

Re: LMC rocker panels

I also bought a set of rockers and corners from LMC, they all ended up in the scrap pile. I ordered new ones from Key parts and was very happy!

Re: LMC rocker panels

The cab corners from LMC are too wide they will flare out in the back... My second set was from GmcPauls but dropped shipped from key parts, they too were too wide an flared out in the back but not as bad a the LMC's and had way less tooling marks which mean less body work, both are made in Taiwan... If you dont mind them flaring out in the back then you can make them work. Tabco's are made in USA and I have them on the way. Will post back up when I get them as to how they fit. As for the rockers from LMC they do have tooling marking but fit great on my truck, they are key parts but bought from LMC. in the pic you can see the tooling marks, pretty bad but I'm can fix that with body work.

The Tabco corners fit great, took a little persuasion to get them on but not much. There's also a little gap from where the Tabco corners meet the LMC (keyparts) rockers.. but I can fix that.

Thanks a lot for keeping me updated and anyone else who is watching this. The product from Tabco do look of higher quality compared to other options have seen out there and looked at in person. Looks like the best bet is to get all of the patch panels from Tabco!

Re: LMC rocker panels

They might work for you... I guess it depends on how much of it you need. Best of luck with them. I had to learn the hard way and have my 3rd set of cab corners coming in the mail...and two sets in the scrap pile. The Tabco should be here Monday. Praying they fit good.

Re: LMC rocker panels

I used Tabco corners with great results. Triplus rockers fit okay but not good. I bought them at Kenny's trucks ( no longer in business). I have heard even the Gm nos rockers take some persuasion
